Bruno Fernandes, former goalkeeper convicted of the murder of model Eliza Samudio, was arrested on Thursday night (7) in São Pedro of Aldeia, in Região of Lagos of Rio of Janeiro. The capture ended two months on the run after the athlete repeatedly failed to comply with the conditions of his parole. An arrest warrant had been issued by Vara of Execuções Penais on March 5, confirming the former player’s irregular status before Justiça.
Operação coordinate locates fugitive in the Porto neighborhood of Aldeia
The recapture resulted from coordinated work between the intelligence sectors of Polícia Militar, Rio, Janeiro and Minas Gerais. Bruno Fernandes was located in the Porto neighborhood of Aldeia and offered no resistance during the approach, collaborating with the agents. Após the capture, was taken to the 125th Delegacia of Polícia in São Pedro of Aldeia to formalize the procedures. The incident was subsequently forwarded to the 127th DP in Búzios, responsible for continuing legal procedures.
Série of infractions led to revocation of probation
The decision to issue a new arrest warrant was based on a series of violations of the conditions imposed for parole granted in 2023. Ministério Público of Rio of Janeiro detailed the transgressions that led Vara of Execuções Penais to revoke the benefit previously granted to the former player. The violations demonstrated a failure to adhere to the legal terms of their regime progression.
The main infractions highlighted include:
- Viagem to Acre on February 15 without judicial authorization to act for Vasco-AC.
- Não returns to the semi-open regime on the date stipulated by Justiça after the trip.
- Falta address update for three years, making judicial monitoring difficult.
- Desrespeito to the nightly collection times established for the regime.
- Frequência to prohibited locations, including playing at Maracanã in February and attending a stadium at Minas Gerais.
Condenação for murder of Eliza Samudio marks criminal trajectory
Bruno Fernandes was arrested in 2010 for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, model Eliza Samudio. The crime gained enormous national and international repercussion due to the brutality and involvement of a public figure in Brazilian football. In 2013, the goalkeeper was sentenced to more than 22 years in prison for the crimes of triple homicide, concealment of a corpse, kidnapping and false imprisonment. The investigations concluded that the motivation was related to the claim of paternity of the child that Eliza had with the player, Bruninho Samudio.
The former goalkeeper remained in a closed regime from 2010 until 2019, when he progressed to a semi-open regime. In 2023, after analyzing his behavior and partially serving his sentence, he obtained the benefit of parole. The revocation of this benefit highlights the recurrence of non-compliance with judicial rules. Bruninho Samudio, son of Bruno Fernandes with Eliza, pursues a football career as a goalkeeper in the youth teams of Botafogo, in Rio of Janeiro.
Vigilância continues to reaffirm the importance of cooperation between police forces
Bruno Fernandes’s trajectory with Justiça reveals a pattern of non-compliance with legal obligations even after granting benefits. The succession of infractions during probation demonstrates difficulty in adapting to the rules imposed by the criminal system. The capture reaffirms the authorities’ continued vigilance over individuals convicted of serious crimes and highlights the importance of collaboration between different state police forces in locating fugitives. The successful operation reflects the integrated work between public security bodies to comply with court decisions.
