During WWDC26, Apple presented the main updates planned for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. The systems arrive with a focus on interface refinement, significant speed gains and a significantly more capable version of the personal assistant. Developer betas have been available since the day of announcement.

Liquid Glass receives customization options

The previously introduced Liquid Glass design now allows greater user control. A new slider adjusts the opacity level of system elements. This reduces visual friction between menu bars and texts, for example. Many users reported different preferences compared to the previous look. Apple responded to this feedback with the customization tool.

The adjustments range from ultra transparent mode to more inky options. The change applies consistently across different apps and screens. Developers are already testing the integration in beta versions. The result is an experience that better suits individual tastes.

  • Slider for Liquid Glass opacity
  • Reduction of interference in bars and texts
  • Options ranging from ultra clear to tinted
  • Consistent application across system interfaces

Performance gains significant leaps

iOS 27 promises to load new images in the Photos app up to 70% faster. Transfers via AirDrop are up to 80% faster. Navigation between documents in the Files app also improves by up to five times. These optimizations aim to make daily use more fluid.

Switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data goes more smoothly. The system maintains the connection even in sudden changes of location. Additionally, the CPU scheduler has been adapted for older models. This helps preserve compatibility across a wider range of devices.

The iPhone 11 and later models receive iOS 27. Apple highlighted that this is the update available to the largest number of users to date. Initial beta testing confirms noticeable gains in multitasking and responsiveness.

Siri AI approaches conversational chatbot

The big star goes to the new Siri AI. It gets a dedicated app and appears in the Dynamic Island of the latest iPhones. Translucent animations and floating cards show the processing of responses. Entire conversations adopt a similar look to other chatbots.

The assistant now maintains continuous and contextual dialogues. It interprets complex tasks and integrates better with native applications. Users can customize voice, expressiveness and speaking rhythm. Siri AI also accesses personal information from apps like Mail, Messages, Photos, Files, and Calendar.

Commands generate suggested actions based on what appears on the screen. Dictation accuracy improved, as did natural language understanding. Users can find old photos or notes with more spontaneous phrases.

Apple Intelligence expands capabilities across multiple apps

The dedicated section in the Photos app lets you extend, enhance, or reframe images with the help of AI. Safari gains automatic organization of tabs and monitoring of page changes. Custom extensions also come to the browser.

The Camera app becomes more customizable. Users choose which resources appear and in which position. New functions include nutrition label scanning, object recognition and business card scanning. It is possible to create digital passes directly for the Wallet app.

Parental controls have received important expansion. The Child Account activates automatic protections depending on age. Parents set limits on apps, websites, purchases and time on social media. Screen Time has been redesigned with expert-based recommendations.

iPadOS 27 brings specific tweaks for tablets

The menu bar can always remain visible on the screen. iPhone apps now resize freely on iPadOS. These changes complement the news shared with iOS 27. The focus continues on productivity and a more intuitive experience.

The complete system will be available for compatible devices in the second half of the year. The public release should take place in September, along with the new iPhones. Beta versions for developers have been circulating since the announcement.

iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 emphasize refinement over big visual leaps. Performance improvements and smarter Siri AI represent the main advance. Older model users gain extended support.
