On June 8, Apple announced iOS 27 during the keynote presentation at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026). New features include improved Apple Intelligence, faster performance, and a redesigned Liquid Glass. Compatible iPhones remain the same as iOS 26, starting with iPhone 11. A beta version for developers is now available, with an official launch scheduled for autumn in the northern hemisphere.
Announcing the evolution of the next generation operating system
Apple presented updates to next-generation operating systems, including iOS 27. The improvements also apply to iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and visionOS.
The system works faster
One of the main features of iOS 27 is improved system performance. In addition to more fluid animations, the update speeds up several everyday actions.
For example, application launch is 30% faster, photo library loading is 70% faster and AirDrop is up to 80% faster. CPU scheduler optimization benefits even older iPhone models.
Additionally, improvements reduce daily stress, such as optimized automatic switching between cellular and Wi-Fi networks and progress bar display for photos sent via message. Users can also customize the sound of their AirPods. The image quality of FlyOver, with aerial tours on the map, has been significantly improved.
Liquid Glass has evolved! Now user adjustable
iOS 27 brings an improved design of the previously introduced Liquid Glass, which now allows you to adjust transparency. Application icons gain a transparent look, which improves the overall design consistency.
Next-generation Apple Intelligence and Siri
Apple has emphasized the evolution of Apple Intelligence in new operating systems. A new AI platform, called Apple Foundation Models, uses Google’s Gemini family of models for advanced processing while maintaining user privacy.
Siri AI and the dedicated Siri app
The Siri personal assistant has been redesigned and is now called Siri AI. A dedicated Siri app comes to iPhones and other devices. The new version can be activated by swiping on the Dynamic Island, which expands the possible actions.
Conversations with Siri are synchronized via iCloud, making it easy to switch between iPhone and Mac. Users will be able to customize the assistant’s rhythm and voice. Features such as visual intelligence to analyze screen content and text redaction with tone adjustment are also available. Initially in English, with expansion into other languages, including Japanese.
Safari and passwords
Safari automatically organizes tabs by content with Apple Intelligence and sends notifications for updates to web pages even after tabs are closed. The password system allows you to consolidate weak passwords and update them to stronger versions.
Now you can change the composition of your photos!
The cleaning function removes unwanted objects from photos with greater precision. Changing the aspect ratio allows the system to automatically fill in missing background elements. The Spatial Reframing feature changes the composition even after the photo is taken, with the AI generating what is missing. Windows and Android users will also be able to participate in shared photo albums.
Shortcuts can be created easily
Practical shortcuts emerge when the user describes the need in natural language. An example is creating a sequence of actions with the command: “When I leave work, send a message to my family with my estimated arrival time.”
Child protection will also be reinforced
New operating systems, including iOS 27, strengthen child protection. Parents will be able to control applications, screen time by category, contacts and content viewed. Apple will launch a website with information to help make informed decisions.
The beta version is now available! The official version will be released in the fall
The developer beta of iOS 27 is available today. The public beta for registered users launches in July. Some AI features, like the new Siri, are expected to arrive in beta later. Certain Apple Intelligence features will not be available in Europe pending regulations and in China pending compliance.
Compatible with iPhone 11 and later versions! No loss of support from iOS 26
iOS 27 is compatible with iPhone 11 and later models. The list of devices has not changed in relation to iOS 26, allowing a hassle-free update for those already running the previous version. Apple highlighted that iOS 27 will be the system compatible with the widest variety of models to date. Limits on using advanced Apple Intelligence features increase with iCloud+ subscription.
