A few weeks ago, journalist Sammy Barker reported serious security vulnerabilities in the PS5 that have caused loyal PlayStation customers to lose access to their accounts.

As exposed by Sacred Symbols podcaster Colin Moriarty, lax customer service allowed bad actors to take over multiple PSN accounts using just some publicly available data, such as email address and date of a transaction.

However, it appears that Sony is taking the issue seriously.

An X (formerly Twitter) user named PorkPoncho has identified two new openings for the position of Senior Fraud Strategist at PlayStation headquarters, both in San Mateo and London.

The roles seek professionals “passionate about protecting our players and platforms against fraud and abuse”.

Here’s what the full announcement says: “As a Senior Fraud Strategist, you will contribute deep expertise in fraud matters, help shape and implement fraud strategies, and lead defined workflows on fraud mitigation initiatives. You will work closely with product, engineering, analytics, operations, and external partner teams to identify fraud risks, design scalable solutions, and drive measurable impact.”

Sony is looking for candidates with at least eight years of experience in the field, which shows that the company is not messing around and wants professionals capable of starting work immediately.

Although this may be an area that the company already intended to reinforce, the timing of the hiring draws attention, right after the recent reports on the aforementioned social engineering scams.

In the end, even though the owner of the platform probably should not have ended up in this situation, it is possible to hope that Sony can quickly fill these vacancies and move towards a safer and more secure PSN.

Many of us have thousands of dollars and valuable gaming memories tied to our PlayStation accounts and it’s critical that Sony keeps them safe.
