During the electoral process to guarantee his continued command of Real Madrid, president Florentino Pérez assured members and fans that the club would make an investment of 150 million euros, which corresponds to around R$900 million, in the acquisition of a new weight booster, without specifying the identity of the athlete at the time.

This Tuesday (9), 48 hours after the end of the election that endorsed his continuation in the position, the identity of the professional in question became public. Through an official note published on its website, the Real Madrid board ratified the opening of negotiations and the sending of a financial proposal to obtain the federative rights of Julián Álvarez, currently linked to Atlético de Madrid.

The statement issued by the leadership of Real Madrid C.F. clarified that the decision to present the formal offer of €150 million to Atlético de Madrid, aiming at the transfer of striker Julián Álvarez, occurred shortly after the end of the assembly led by members of the institution’s Board of Directors.

Despite the financial offer reaching very high levels for the transfer market, Real Madrid used the same document to notify that the transaction was unfeasible, since Atlético de Madrid, which is one of the Madrid club’s historic rivals, chose to decline the financial approach.

The justification presented by the directors of Atlético de Madrid to refuse the financial amount was based on the mutual respect existing in the institutional coexistence of both associations, however the negative response was supported by the demand for full payment of the termination fine stipulated in the athlete’s contract.

Julián Álvarez’s market value doubles in two years in Spain

Argentine striker Julián Álvarez, who is 26 years old, was signed by Atlético de Madrid in 2024 for a fee of 75 million euros, in an operation sealed with Manchester City. The technical performance and goals scored in Spanish football over the last two seasons justified the appreciation of his pass, which has now reached twice the price originally invested.

The forward player has a CV full of impressive trophies for the teams he played for and, at this moment, is integrated into the Argentina national team delegation, focused on training and matches to maintain the country’s hegemony in the World Cup dispute.
