Red Bull Salzburg announced this Tuesday the signing of defender Nikolas Veratschnig from Mainz 05. The 23-year-old Austrian player signed a contract valid until June 2030.
Veratschnig leaves Germany after two seasons with the Bundesliga club. He arrived at Mainz in July 2024 from Wolfsberger AC and played around 45 games in total, between the Bundesliga, Conference League and German Cup.
Born on January 24, 2003 in Villach, the athlete is versatile and plays mainly as a right-back or midfielder on the right side. He returns to Austrian football with experience gained in the top German league.
The deal involved an estimated value of around 3.5 million euros, according to press reports. With the agreement, Salzburg guarantees a young player with the potential to be a starter and contribute to next season’s national and international challenges.
Veratschnig’s return to his home country represents another strategic move by Salzburg to reinforce the squad with Austrian talents who have spent time in Europe. He has already played for Austria’s youth teams up to the under-21 level.
The long-term contract, four years from now, signals the club’s confidence in the player’s development. Veratschnig arrives motivated to gain more minutes on the field, something he was looking for in the final stretch in Mainz.
