River Plate agreed to sign Uruguayan midfielder Mauro Arambarri, who arrives from Getafe, in Spain, to join Eduardo Coudet’s squad. The 30-year-old player becomes Millonario’s second reinforcement in the current transfer market, following the arrival of Nicolás Otamendi.

The operation involves the acquisition of 100% of the player’s rights for around 6 million euros. Getafe held 50% of the pass, while the rest was divided between Boston River and the athlete himself. Arambarri has already agreed personal terms and must sign a contract until December 2029.

Coudet knows the new reinforcement well

Coach Eduardo Coudet was one of the main people responsible for the negotiation. The coach faced Arambarri several times in La Liga, when he was in charge of Alavés, and expressly asked for the signing. The Uruguayan stands out for his intensity in marking, recovering the ball and ability to reach the front, characteristics that complement the current River Plate midfield.

Arambarri arrives with consolidated experience in Europe. Since 2017 at Getafe, he has played more than 260 matches for the Spanish club, becoming one of the institution’s biggest references. Last season, he was on the field in 37 of the 38 Spanish Championship games, performing well against set pieces.

What changes in River’s midfield

With the arrival of Arambarri, Coudet gains more options for the central zone. The Uruguayan midfielder competes for position directly with Aníbal Moreno and Fausto Vera, bringing a tougher and more restrained profile that the current squad does not have in abundance. Millonario seeks greater balance for the competitions in the second half of 2026.

Born in Salto, Uruguay, Arambarri has spent time in the Charrúa national team’s youth ranks, but enjoyed his peak in Spanish football. He established himself as a fundamental player at Getafe, helping the club to remain in the elite and compete in European competitions. His experience in high-intensity games should be a differentiator in Argentine football.

The expectation is that the player will travel to Argentina in the next few days to undergo medical examinations and be officially presented. With Otamendi and now Arambarri, River is moving forward in assembling the squad to fight for titles in the main competitions.
