The transition of the main tennis players on the world circuit to the grass court season began shortly after the end of Roland Garros, functioning as an essential preparation for the dispute at Wimbledon, the next Grand Slam on the international circuit. The world ranking leader, however, decided to stay out of all competitions prior to the British tournament after falling early in the second round in France and suffering from the strong heat during the competition. The Italian athlete underwent a battery of clinical examinations at the San Raffaele Hospital, a hospital complex located in Milan, due to the physical wear and tear accumulated on the French clay.

The tennis player’s trip to the San Raffaele Hospital occurred exactly as planned by his team shortly after his fall at the Paris tournament, with the aim of analyzing the physical condition of the world number 1. Jannik Sinner was very close to securing his place in the third phase of the French Grand Slam, leading the match against Juan Manuel Cerúndolo by 2 sets to 0 and maintaining a 5-1 advantage in the third phase. At that moment, the Italian started to feel acutely unwell on the court, requested medical support and remained in the game trying to overcome the heat stress, but the Argentine tennis player turned the score around and took the leader of the ranking out of the dispute early.

The period following the Roland Garros tournament is usually used by elite tennis athletes to register for official grass events, a strategy to accelerate adaptation to the fast surface and the ball’s behavior, which rises much less compared to clay courts. Jannik Sinner gave up doing this warm-up circuit to focus his efforts exclusively on the body rehabilitation process, aiming for the start of Wimbledon, the championship that starts on June 29th.
