WEB.DE has implemented improvements to its consent management system, allowing users to more easily adjust permissions to use their personal data.

The email and online services platform, popular in Germany, integrates netID to centralize privacy settings. Users now access a specific panel where they can view and change consents for different data processing purposes.

How to access privacy settings

To manage Einwilligungen, the user must log in to the WEB.DE account, click on the icon with the initials of the name in the top bar and select “Account verwalten”. Then go to “Datenschutz & Privatsphäre” and choose “Privatsphäre-Einstellungen” in the WEB.DE Einwilligungen section.

There appears the complete list of purposes that require consent. It is possible to activate or deactivate checkboxes individually for each purpose and save the changes at the end of the page.

Options for netID partners

In addition to direct WEB.DE settings, there is the possibility of managing consents for other partners in the netID ecosystem. After accessing the same privacy path, the user goes down to the processing by other companies section and manages permissions one by one.

There is also the option to apply the same choices to other netID partners by checking a specific box before saving. This makes it easier to control in bulk without repeating the process for each service.

Importance of granular consent

The “Consent or Pay” model adopted by services like WEB.DE gives the user the choice between accepting the use of data for personalization and advertisements or opting for a paid subscription. Updates to the system reinforce the transparency required by European data protection rules.

Privacy experts highlight that tools like this help balance the user experience with the platforms’ legal obligations. In the case of WEB.DE, netID acts as a bridge, avoiding duplication of configurations between connected services.

Practical tips for users

  • Periodically review permissions, especially after platform updates.
  • Remember that consents can be withdrawn at any time without prejudice to basic access.
  • For questions, the WEB.DE help center offers detailed guides and support chat.

The focus on usability reflects a larger trend in the European market to give users more real control over their data.
