Inter Milan is very close to strengthening its defense with the arrival of French defender Oumar Solet, currently at Udinese. According to journalist Nicolò Schira, the Nerazzurro club already has a verbal agreement with the player on personal terms and is moving forward in negotiations with the Friulian club. The operation must be structured as an onerous loan with a purchase obligation starting in February 2027.

At 26 years old, Solet established himself as a starter at Udinese after arriving at the club in January 2025. The defender, who plays mainly as a central defender but offers versatility for other roles in the three or four, recently impressed even against Inter themselves, in a match in the Italian Championship.

Why Solet is Inter’s priority

The Frenchman stands out for his ability to play, good reading of the game and physical strength, attributes that interest coach Simone Inzaghi at a time when Inter seeks to balance the squad after recently winning titles. The Nerazzurri defense has experienced names, but the club plans renewals and replacements to maintain competitiveness on multiple fronts next season.

The financial structure of the negotiation is the big difference. Instead of an immediate payment in full, Inter opts for the loan model with an obligation to purchase activated in 2027. This makes it possible to dilute the investment in the future budget, preserving resources for other signings in 2026. Udinese asks for around €25 million in total, an amount that can be adjusted with counterparts. Solet has already signaled his availability to sign a long contract with Inter until 2031.

Market context and player career

Born in 2000, Solet spent time in Salzburg before arriving in Italy. His current contract with Udinese runs until June 2027, which leaves room for a temporary renewal that would facilitate the loan without financial loss for his home club. Other Premier League and Ligue 1 teams were monitoring the player, but the Frenchman prioritizes the Italian project.

This move reinforces Inter’s strategy in the market: investing in young profiles with potential for appreciation, without compromising the accounts in the short term. For Udinese, leaving represents a significant profit on an athlete who arrived without a high cost.
