The Minnesota Wild announced the extension of the forward’s contract for six years worth a total of US$20 million this Tuesday. The new contract begins in the 2026-27 season and runs until the end of the 2031-32 season.
McCarron, 31, came to the Wild after being acquired from the Nashville Predators shortly before the NHL’s trade window closed this season.
He contributed three goals and two assists in 20 regular-season games for the Wild, and recorded two goals and two assists in 11 playoff games.
Over 381 career games with the Wild, Predators and Montreal Canadiens, McCarron has 36 goals and 43 assists. The 1.98m player stands out for his physical style and presence in decisive games, which explains the Wild’s investment after giving up a second-round pick in the 2028 draft to bring him from Nashville in March.
He was selected by the Canadiens 25th overall in the 2013 NHL Draft.
