The Italian brand Prada presented on Sunday (7) the inner layer of the suit that NASA astronauts will wear on their way to the Moon, marking the brand’s entry as the first major luxury house to play a relevant role in the space industry.

The skin-tight suit, developed in partnership with Axiom Space — a space infrastructure company based in Houston — incorporates ventilation tubes integrated directly into the fabric.

The new component continues Prada’s foray into the space segment that began in 2024, when the brand revealed the complete suit that will be used in the lunar landing of NASA’s Artemis 4 mission, scheduled for 2028.

Prada’s move comes at a time of challenges for the luxury goods sector. After two years of contraction, the market showed signs of recovery until tensions in the Middle East worsened in late February, which reduced travel and impacted spending on high-value items in regions beyond the Middle East.

Other fashion and clothing brands are also exploring the space trend. Under Armor has partnered with Virgin Galactic to develop apparel for spaceflight, while Columbia Sportswear has collaborated with Intuitive Machines on fabric technologies for the space environment.
