ABEMA suffers large-scale outage and leaves users without live programs

A major technical failure hit the ABEMA streaming service on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 10, 2026. Since approximately 6:16 p.m., users across Japan have reported difficulties in accessing and watching the platform’s content, with display errors and the unavailability of most channels.

The company responsible confirmed the problem through official announcements on the application, support website and social networks. “We are working to resolve the problem”, informed ABEMA, which also formally apologized for the inconvenience.

Just news on air

During the interruption, only news channels and press conference broadcasts continue to operate normally. Other programs, including lives, anime, sports and original productions, are unavailable or display a maintenance message.

The platform advises users to wait for normalization and check for updates on the official profile on X or on the support page.

Reactions on networks

On social media, the volume of complaints grew rapidly. Publications such as “I can’t watch ABEMA”, “It suddenly went into maintenance mode” and reports of those who missed live broadcasts of popular programs, such as the anime Re:Zero, multiplied. Many expressed frustration, especially as it coincided with anticipated content times.

To date, ABEMA has not disclosed the exact cause of the failure nor a forecast for a full return of service. Instability affects all devices.

Platform in anniversary year

The incident occurs in an important year for ABEMA, which celebrates its 10th anniversary of launch in 2026. The platform, known for live broadcasts of sports, variety, anime and exclusive events, has millions of monthly users and has established itself as an alternative to traditional TV in Japan.

Systemic failures like this highlight the infrastructure challenges faced by large-scale streaming services, especially when multiple channels operate simultaneously.
