This Wednesday, Manchester United announced the departure of three players from the main squad at the end of the season. Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho will leave the club when their contracts expire on June 30.
The club’s statement left no room for doubt about the trio. The departures were already expected, but now they have become definitive, marking the beginning of a profound overhaul of the Old Trafford squad.
In addition to the main three, United also confirmed the release of young players from the academy: Sonny Aljofree, James Bailey and Malachi Sharpe. In total, six players leave the club as free agents.
Reshuffle at Old Trafford
The English club is going through a moment of great transformation. Ederson’s signing has already been sealed, and reinforcements are expected in midfield, on the left flank — with Lewis Hall, from Newcastle, in his sights — and on the wing.
The departures help to alleviate the wage bill by around £640,000 per week, according to calculations from sources close to the club. Casemiro should head to Inter Miami, from MLS, where he would meet Lionel Messi again.
Sancho’s performance at United

Jadon Sancho, signed for 73 million pounds from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, leaves a controversial mark. In five years, he played 83 games for Manchester United, with just 12 goals and six assists.
Interestingly, the striker played more times for the teams that loaned him (Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa) — 101 matches in total — than for the Red Devils.
Malacia, in turn, never managed to establish himself as a consistent starter since his arrival.
Barcelona rules out purchase of Rashford
Marcus Rashford, who spent the season on loan at Barcelona, will not be bought permanently by the Catalan club. Fabrizio Romano and newspaper Marca confirmed that Barcelona chose not to exercise the €30 million (around £26 million) clause.
The Italian journalist indicated that the matter could be revisited later in the window, but Marca was adamant: Rashford will not return to Camp Nou at this time. The player must return to Manchester United before defining his future.
What changes in practice
The departures represent the first concrete step by United’s management to balance the books and build a more competitive squad. With the release of high salaries, the club gains scope for specific investments in key positions.
In the case of Rashford, his performance at Barcelona — with impressive numbers of goals and assists according to recent reports — contrasts with his previous phase at United, but the negotiation for the purchase clashed with the values and structure of the agreement.
