José Bordalás will continue in charge of Getafe until June 2028. The Spanish coach signed a contract renewal this Tuesday (10) and ended speculation about his future at the Madrid club.

The decision keeps the coach who built the current project at the helm of the team since his return in 2023. Bordalás caught Getafe close to the relegation zone in the 2022/23 season and, since then, has consolidated the team as a competitive team in La Liga.

In the 2025/26 season, Getafe finished in 7th place, the best position in years, and guaranteed a place in the UEFA Conference League. It is the second time that Bordalás has taken the club to Europe, repeating the feat of his first visit, when he qualified the team for the Europa League.

Experience accumulated at the club

Bordalás has managed more than 300 games for Getafe between his two spells. His intense style, based on high pressing and quick transitions, marked the team’s identity even with limited resources compared to the Spanish giants.

The 61-year-old coach from Alicante transformed a squad that started last season with difficulties into a group capable of fighting for European positions. The renewal signals stability for the board led by president Ángel Torres.

What changes for Getafe

With Bordalás guaranteed, Getafe can plan the 2026/27 season with more peace of mind. The focus will be on maintaining the core of the squad and preparing the team for the demands of competing in national and European competitions at the same time.

The return to Europe takes place seven years after the last participation. For the club, which usually works with modest budgets, the coach’s stay is seen as a key to dreaming big again.
