Roblox, an online gaming platform very popular among children and teenagers, is once again available in Russia without the need for a VPN. The country’s Ministry of Digital Development announced the measure this Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
The decision marks the end of a blockade that lasted around six months. The platform had been restricted in December 2025 by Roskomnadzor, the Russian communications regulator, which alleged the presence of extremist materials, LGBT propaganda and content that could harm the moral development of minors.
According to the Ministry, Roblox Corporation fully complied with the requirements of Russian legislation to ensure user safety. Among the measures adopted by the company are the creation of conditions to protect the rights and interests of Russian players, including age restriction mechanisms.
The unlocking was preceded by negotiations between the platform and Russian authorities. The previous day, the Ministry of Digital Development and Roskomnadzor had already formally asked security bodies to support the release of access, citing the guarantees offered by Roblox.
Impact on the market and users
The news generated a positive reaction in the market. Shares of Roblox Corporation rose significantly on the American stock exchange the day before, reflecting expectations of recovery in an important market. Russia was one of the main countries for the platform, with an estimated 18 million monthly users before the blockade, mostly children and teenagers.
Many Russian users celebrated the return, especially families who saw the platform as a space for creation and socialization. During the restriction period, reports indicated frustration among children who lost access to games, communities and purchased items.
What changes in practice
Release is not without conditions. Roblox has implemented stricter controls, such as limiting chat features and access by age groups, to comply with local regulations. This represents an adaptation of the platform to the requirements of countries that prioritize the regulation of content for minors, similar to measures seen in other nations.
Experts note that the case illustrates the tension between the global and open nature of Roblox — which allows millions of users to create and share experiences — and national regulatory demands aimed at child protection. The return of the service could stimulate discussions about the balance between creative freedom and online security on digital platforms.
Roblox remains a worldwide phenomenon, with tens of millions of user-generated games. In Russia, the expectation is that the gradual return will help to recover part of the engagement lost in recent months.
