Chelsea plans to make a bid of around 100 million euros to sign 21-year-old Real Madrid midfielder Arda Güler. The initiative comes directly from new coach Xabi Alonso, who sees the Turk as a priority for the project at Stamford Bridge.

Güler experienced a season of consolidation in 2025/26 at Real Madrid. He played 51 games, scored six goals and distributed 12 assists. His highlights included the UEFA Champions League Newcomer award and La Liga Goal of the Season with a stunning shot from almost 70 meters. These performances have transformed the youngster, signed from Fenerbahçe in 2023, into one of the most promising talents in Europe.

Xabi Alonso, who takes over at Chelsea on July 1, worked with Güler during his time at Real Madrid. The coach maintains frequent contact with the player via messages, as the midfielder himself revealed in recent interviews. This personal relationship could give the English club an advantage over rivals such as Arsenal and Liverpool, who are also monitoring the situation.

Real Madrid, however, does not intend to facilitate the exit. The Merengue club considers Güler a key player for the future, with a contract valid until 2029. Sources close to the Bernabéu say there is no willingness to negotiate, even with a huge offer.

Personal connection as an asset

The relationship between Alonso and Güler goes beyond the field. The Spanish coach praised the midfielder’s ability to absorb tactical concepts quickly. Güler has already declared admiration for Alonso’s working method, which could influence a possible transfer.

At Chelsea, the Turk would find an environment of reconstruction. After an irregular season in the Premier League, the club is betting on Alonso to restore competitiveness. A high-level investment in Güler would signal clear ambition, although it would need to respect the rules of financial fair play.

Operation challenges

A transfer of 100 million euros involves risks. Güler still needs to prove consistency in the physical intensity of the Premier League. On the other hand, Alonso’s prior knowledge would facilitate his adaptation.

Other English clubs are following the case, but the connection with the coach could be decisive. Meanwhile, Real Madrid is focusing on keeping its young talents, seeing Güler as a long-term investment alongside the likes of Bellingham and Vinicius.

The outcome should be defined in the coming weeks, with the summer 2026 transfer market gaining momentum. For Chelsea fans, the possible arrival represents the chance to count on a unique playmaker.
