A video by American recruiter Sophie Rocha, 23, gained wide repercussion on social media when she described a job interview marked by a sequence of attitudes that human resources professionals usually consider inappropriate.
The publication, which has accumulated more than 300,000 likes on TikTok, has reignited the debate about generation Z’s relationship with the job market.
In the video, Sophie, who works in Los Angeles on the career platform Home From College, aimed at young university students, says that the candidate participated in the interview using his cell phone and justified the decision by stating that the conversation “wasn’t that serious”.
Then, according to Rocha, he expressed excitement about the chance to work from home because he planned to travel around Europe during the summer.
Throughout the conversation, the candidate also questioned the salary offered for the position and said he believed he would receive a formal proposal the following week, as he imagined that the company would not be talking to other competitors.
“I fear that people who say Gen Z isn’t getting jobs because of their attitude are a little right,” said the recruiter at the beginning of the video. The statement generated divided opinions.
Some of the comments jokingly asked whether the position was still available, given the low level of competition. Others doubted the story and suggested that the influencer might be exaggerating to gain views.
Sophie Rocha, 23, is part of the marketing team at the employment platform Home From College.
Generation Z’s relationship with work has already sparked discussions on other occasions on social media. Issues such as work-life balance and the preference for more flexible hiring models often clash with employers’ more traditional expectations.
