Without a doubt, the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time marked the main highlight of the Nintendo Direct held this Tuesday, and fans are already filling the networks with opinions about what they saw.

The most recent Nintendo Direct ended with the long-awaited confirmation that Ocarina of Time is getting a new version for the Nintendo Switch 2. The title arrives in 2026, but Nintendo did not show any gameplay sequences or set an exact release date. Still, the announcement stood out among the main moments of the event. And what was the public reaction?

Some players expressed frustration with the lack of more concrete details from Nintendo and hoped that the moment would serve to present the first gameplay images. “Ocarina of Time looks amazing, but the reveal was disappointing considering it’s coming out this year. We needed gameplay [to be honest],” commented one user on X.

“55 minutes of pure garbage and the only reward is an 8 second clip of Link lying in bed,” wrote one fan. “Teasing Zelda like this, without any gameplay demonstration for a game that comes out in a few months, is certainly a questionable choice,” added another.

One internet user mocked Nintendo’s time dedicated to the Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, especially the new arm wrestling activity. “Hey, can we watch Ocarina of Time gameplay? No, here’s five minutes of thumb fighting,” he joked. “We saw three minutes of arm wrestling and then 10 seconds of Link’s hand,” complained another.

The look suggested by the brief moment with Link lying in bed also became a topic of debate, with some fans interpreting that the game is moving towards a more realistic style, similar to what is seen in Unreal Engine 5 productions. The scene was so short that it is too early to evaluate the game in motion, but opinions were divided. “As someone who has always loved Zelda’s cartoonish art style, I haven’t really liked the realistic tone of the Ocarina of Time remake so far,” said one fan. “I’m not a fan of the realistic look they seem to be going for, BUT I’ll wait for a trailer to form my opinion,” added another.

This discussion directly connects to the old meme about fan-made remakes of Ocarina of Time created with Unreal Engine. The phrase “Nintendo, hire this guy” often appears when realistic videos of Nintendo classics go viral and receive praise. Now Nintendo has become the target of jokes. “THEY HIRED THIS GUY!!!” one user posted. “It’s like… ‘Nintendo, hire this guy,’” said another. “That’s it. Like those Unreal Engine videos I saw on YouTube about ten years ago”, replied a third.

The remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be released in 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2. The 1998 classic is considered one of the most acclaimed games in history, with a 99 rating on Metacritic, and the new project arrives as an opportunity for a new generation to discover Hyrule with updated visuals.
