Capcom opened Summer Game Fest 2026 with the announcement of Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the classic Code Veronica, scheduled for 2027. The title surprised fans by simplifying the name, marking the return of Claire Redfield in a production treated as the main one in the series.
Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, responsible for the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4, explained the choice during a question and answer session after the reveal. According to him, the new name seeks to move away from the spin-off perception that Code Veronica carried and reinforce the importance of Claire’s journey in the franchise.
In Resident Evil 2, Claire arrives in Raccoon City in search of her brother Chris, while Leon S. Kennedy experiences his first day as a police officer. Leon’s story gained direct continuations in main titles such as RE4, RE6 and Requiem. Claire’s continued in Code Veronica, which ended up creating a secondary “aura” for the game.
With Veronica, Capcom adopts the same naming logic as recent releases: Biohazard for RE7, Village for RE8 and Requiem for RE9. The goal is to deliver a concise experience that conveys core game weight.
Confirmed third-person gameplay
The announcement trailer used first-person moments for cinematic impact, but the game will be strictly third-person, in line with the style of recent remakes. Hirabayashi reinforced that the camera follows the pattern of Resident Evil 2 Remake, with tight inventory management and a focus on psychological horror.
The production is based on the original 2000 title, which follows Claire in an Antarctic prison and deepens the conflict between the Redfield brothers and the shadow of Albert Wesker. Capcom promises aggressive narrative adjustments to update the story.
Strong reception and platforms
The announcement generated great anticipation. A few days after the reveal, Resident Evil Veronica has already accumulated more than 520 thousand wishlists on Steam, leading among the games presented at the Summer Game Fest.
The title will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series
