Netflix has finalized the main cast of the live-action seriesScooby-Doo: Origins, which is scheduled to debut in 2027. The platform announced this Wednesday (10) a wave of new names that join the young protagonists already confirmed.
The plot follows the origins of the famous Mistério S/A gang. Old friends Daphne and Shaggy are at summer camp when they are involved in a supernatural murder that may have been witnessed by a lost Great Dane puppy. To solve the case, they team up with the studious Velma and the newcomer Fred.
Mckenna Grace plays Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen plays Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson is Velma Dinkley and Maxwell Jenkins takes on the role of Fred Jones. Paul Walter Hauser also joins the cast in an undisclosed role.
Among the new additions are names like Rusty Schwimmer (The Pitt), Peter Macon (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), Maxwell Simkins (Shifting Gears), Jona Xiao (The Pitt), Dani Deetté (FBI: Most Wanted), Sara Gilbert (The Connors) and Bruce McGill (Reacher), as well as Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks), between others.
First time with a real dog
For the first time in the franchise’s history, Scooby-Doo will be played by a real Great Dane puppy, and not by CGI as in the live-action films of the 2000s. Frank Welker, the character’s iconic voice in animation, will voice the dog.
Recordings are already underway in Atlanta. The series has Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg as showrunners and main writers, with executive production also by Greg Berlanti. There are eight episodes planned.
The modern approach promises to explore the teenagers’ secrets as they face their first mystery together, mixing horror and adventure in the classic style of the franchise that has existed for over 50 years.
