Free Grand Theft Auto V upgrade arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series for previous generation players
Rockstar Games implemented, this Thursday (18), a free update that allows Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) players to migrate their versions from PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Thirteen years after its original release, the title continues to receive support, with the new feature covering both Story Mode and the popular GTA Online. This initiative reinforces the producer’s commitment to its fan base, preparing the ground for future content and maintaining the relevance of one of the best-selling games in history.
The free update serves as an anticipation for the next major expansion of GTA Online, called Kortz Center Heist. This new mission is scheduled to launch in July, although the exact date has not yet been officially confirmed by the studio.
PC gaming enthusiasts were also treated to improvements. Those still using the Legacy edition of the game can upgrade to the Enhanced version at no cost. This enhanced edition incorporates advanced visual features such as ambient occlusion with ray tracing technology and more realistic global illumination.
Steps to get the free GTA 5 update on consoles
Starting this Thursday (18), owners of GTA 5, whether in the physical or digital version for PlayStation 4, or in the digital version for Xbox One, are able to transfer their game to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S editions at no additional cost. The main objective is to ensure that players enjoy the most optimized game experience before the debut of the highly anticipated Kortz Center Heist.
The next-gen versions of GTA 5 and GTA Online feature significant technical improvements, as well as making it easier to transfer progress in both Story Mode and online activities. Among the new features are new high-performance vehicles and customizations available at Hao’s Special Works, accompanied by exclusive rewards from the Career Progression system.
Subscribers to the GTA+ service receive an additional privilege: it is now possible to access GTA 5 Story Mode directly through the subscription’s Game Library, together with GTA Online. This is a new feature for program members.
The update does not require the purchase of any extra content by players who already own the title on eligible platforms. Simply visit the corresponding console’s digital store and start the update process.
GTA Online Progress Transfer Guidelines
GTA Online profile transfer can be performed directly from the game’s home screen or through the pause menu after logging into your Rockstar Games account on the target console. When accessing online mode for the first time on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, the “Profile Migration” screen will be automatically displayed.
In the migration environment, the user selects the source platform profile and confirms the operation. It is crucial to note that purchased and unused GTA$ cannot be transferred between different platforms, that is, from PlayStation 4 to Xbox Series X|S, or from Xbox One to PlayStation 5, for example. After the migration process is complete, a confirmation notification will appear on the screen.
It is important to note that progress in GTA Online made in different generations will not be synchronized after the migration, and the transfer procedure is not available to connect consoles and PC.
Additionally, not all profiles are eligible for migration. Accounts that are suspended, banned or that show progress considered illegitimate or insufficient may be prevented from making the transfer.
Connection between the update and the release of the Kortz Center Heist in GTA Online
The availability of the free upgrade is directly linked to the imminent launch of the Kortz Center Heist in GTA Online, scheduled for July. Located in the picturesque hills of Pacific Bluffs, the Kortz Center is described by Rockstar as a sophisticated cultural complex, home to valuable international works of art. The central objective of this new scam is precisely to infiltrate the gallery’s collection in a complex mission divided into several stages.
To engage in this new challenge, participants will need to build an Art Studio in their Mansion and carry out a detailed exploration of the complex before defining the ideal infiltration and escape strategy.
In the coming weeks, GTA Online will also promote special events. Players will be able to enjoy bonus GTA$ rewards, exclusive discounts and the chance to obtain unique items through the Fine Art Collector program.
GTA+ members will enjoy even more perks, including a GTA$2,000,000 discount when purchasing Prix Luxury Real Estate properties. Additionally, all players will be able to take advantage of a limited time offer with 40% bonus GTA$ when purchasing any Shark Card.
Projections for the arrival of the long-awaited GTA 6 on the market
Finally, it is worth remembering that the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) is confirmed for November 19th, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no expectations of further postponements. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick reaffirmed this date during a financial results conference call held on May 21, indicating the firmness of the schedule.
The game’s marketing campaign is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks. Take-Two had previously informed that the release would begin during the North American summer, a period that extends between the end of June and September in Brazil.
