Prince William shares country activity that brings Kate Middleton and the heirs to the throne closer together
Prince William, heir to the British throne, gave a rare glimpse into the family routine alongside Kate Middleton and her children, George, Charlotte and Louis. While visiting the Apricot Centre, located in Devon, England, the prince got in touch with the farm’s initiatives and discussed a pastime much appreciated by children.
Speaking to Rachel Phillips, the center’s director, William mentioned that the young members of the royal family have fun growing and harvesting their own fruit and vegetables at their residence.
Phillips reported that the prince was notably impressed with the strawberries grown on site, revealing that in Norfolk his heirs maintain a small vegetable garden, where they grow strawberries, raspberries and lettuce.
With a touch of humor, William commented on the challenge of containing his children’s voracity, who soon consume everything they grow. This practice is part of the private moments of the Welsh family, who often spend their recess periods at Anmer Hall, an estate in Norfolk.
The predilection for gardening is a tradition in the royal family. Previously, Kate herself had already highlighted her children’s involvement in growing food. Furthermore, King Charles III is widely recognized for his devotion to nature and his magnificent gardens, such as Highgrove, perpetuating a connection to the land that resonates with the values of sustainability and environmental contact espoused by the British monarchy.
The interest in gardening extends to other royals, such as cousins Archie and Lilibet, children of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. In a podcast episode, Meghan had already articulated how growing plants helps children understand the intrinsic value of things and develop patience.
She emphasized the importance that “things have a cost and a price”, and that it is essential that children assimilate this notion, especially those who enjoy a privileged environment. According to Meghan, just like etiquette and caring for the environment, it is necessary to recognize the value of things, and gardening is an excellent tool for instilling patience and appreciation for food.
