The match was held at the Houston Stadium in the United States, marking a dominant performance from the Dutch. Forwards Brobbey and Gakpo shone by scoring two goals each, while Summerville completed the scoring. For the Swedes, Elanga managed to score at the end of the first half. With this result, the Dutch team reached first place in the group, gaining four points, while Sweden occupies second place, with three points won.

The Netherlands’ next match in the group stage will be against Tunisia, in a game scheduled for Thursday, at 8 pm (Brasília time), in Kansas. At the same time, Sweden will play its last match of this stage against Japan, on the same day and time, but in the city of Dallas. The 5-1 victory is a crucial factor as it significantly improves the Netherlands’ goal difference, an important tiebreaker that could be decisive in the race for a place in the round of 16. Currently, the Japanese are in fourth place with one point, followed by the Tunisians, who have not yet scored in the tournament. The last two teams in Group F close the round on Sunday, in a clash scheduled for 1 am.
Dutch dominance marks the first stage with goals and annulment by VAR
Brobbey was the highlight of the first half, ensuring the Netherlands’ superiority in the clash in Houston with two quick goals. After just five minutes, Verbruggen made a precise throw from the area into midfield, where Brobbey pivoted and passed it to Reijnders, who opened up on the left for Gakpo. This crossed for the attacker to just push the ball into the back of the net. In the 16th minute, Malen advanced from the right and passed it to Dumfries, who carried the ball free and crossed low into the center of the area, allowing the number 19 to subtly deflect it into the corner of the goal. At the end of the opening half, in the 44th minute, Lagerbielke scored a header for Sweden after a free kick from Nygren. However, the referee disallowed the goal, signaling the Swedish defender was offside after a VAR review.
