Michael Phillips, a 38-year-old man who identifies as having the smallest penis in the world, will undergo surgery to enlarge his reproductive organ. The confirmation came after the successful fundraising with the support of the society, and he expressed gratitude and surprise at the solidarity received in a recent interview.

Until last Saturday, donations made on the GoFundMe platform totaled US$13,000, equivalent to approximately R$67,000.

In 2024, Michael Phillips was diagnosed with his condition, before believing he was only facing delayed puberty. He describes daily difficulties, including problems urinating without splashing, as his organ measures 0.97 cm, the equivalent of the width of a shirt button, even in an erection state.

From a clinical point of view, the micropenis is characterized by a length of less than 7.5 centimeters in erection. This condition, recognized since the 1940s, would ideally be diagnosed at birth, with a measurement of less than 1.9 centimeters. However, in reality, many conditions are not identified early, and social stigma prevents countless men from seeking help and living with the problem in secret for long periods.

Health professionals distinguish micropenis from penile dysmorphic disorder, a condition in which an individual is excessively concerned about the size of the organ without a detectable physical abnormality. Dysmorphic disorder affects between 1% and 2% of the male population, while the micropenis has an organic origin, often linked to low testosterone levels during the fetal and postnatal development phases.

“This situation has been a constant source of frustration and embarrassment, especially in my travels, an activity I enjoy, and has significantly impacted my self-confidence and autonomy,” reported Michael Phillips in the description of his surgery fundraising campaign.
