Body of Brazilian chef missing in London is found dead, family confirms

The family of Minas Gerais chef Dener Marcos Guieiro, who was missing in the British capital, received the sad news this Sunday, July 19: his body was found in a city park. The confirmation came from Ana Luiza Guieiro, the young man’s sister, who was informed directly by the London police.

The 28-year-old young man, born in Belo Horizonte and a gastronomy professional, had last been seen during the early hours of July 4th, in the Hackney neighborhood, located in east London. Dener lived in England for six years, where he worked in a restaurant.

Dener’s sister, who lives in Belo Horizonte, explained that the London police informed the family that the body was discovered in a park in the same region as the last sighting, showing an advanced state of decomposition. The cause of death, as revealed by local authorities, was suicide.

Currently, the chef’s body has been sent to the body equivalent to the London Forensic Institute and is still awaiting release. The family, in turn, faces uncertainty about the necessary procedures for transporting the body back to Brazil.

In cases of death of Brazilian citizens abroad, Itamaraty, through its consular representations, can offer support and guidance to the family regarding bureaucratic and logistical procedures. The agency was consulted by journalists regarding federal aid to Dener’s family and the transfer process, but has not yet provided details about the support offered.

Concerned about the chef’s whereabouts, the London police had released a photo of Dener on digital platforms last week, asking the public for any information that could help locate him. At the time, the corporation expressed deep concern for the safety and well-being of Brazilians.
