Actress Kate Beckinsale published a series of bleak messages on Sept. 20 across her social media profiles without providing an immediate explanation to followers. The 54-year-old performer uploaded the brief statements across multiple posts on Instagram.
Two cryptic messages appear online
One feed image displayed the single word “bye” in white text set against a solid black background without an accompanying caption.
A separate update on Instagram Stories featured a photograph showing a street ending at a rainbow. Over that picture, the Underworld star placed the sentence “Congratulations you won. I give up” directly onto the screen. Her team provided no comment.
Account cleared following online scrutiny
The updates arrived weeks after Beckinsale wiped her entire Instagram profile clean in August. That purge came after dozens of users posted unsolicited remarks targeting her body size and appearance.
Bereavement and chronic health condition
Beckinsale experienced the death of her mother, Judy Loe, in 2025. Three years prior to that loss, the actress publicly disclosed a diagnosis of mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS). On Aug. 8, she addressed the hostility by explaining how intense personal grief and chronic health complications directly trigger weight reduction.
Responses to remarks regarding weight loss
“You take a break from Instagram for several months following the death of your mother, delete all of your posts and explain in some considerable detail about what you may have lost weight including the fact that weight loss is one of the very first physical signs of bereavement … I think people might be broken,” Beckinsale wrote in an Aug. 8 post addressing hostile feedback from online users. She had preserved dozens of screenshots documenting negative comments before wiping her timeline.
Direct exchanges preserved from social accounts
Several critical messages and Beckinsale’s direct replies remained documented prior to her account reset:
- A commenter urged Beckinsale to stop taking medication, claiming she appeared unwell after looking divine.
- Another user instructed the actress to eat food alongside an emoji.
- A third follower claimed to prefer the actress when she remained silent.
Responding to the remark demanding her silence, Beckinsale wrote: “Well, you won’t again. I’ll delete everything except for the books I recommend.” That statement concluded her interactions with followers prior to the subsequent September posts.
