Square Enix has officially confirmed that the third and final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII recreation project will hit the market in 2027. The announcement aligns the launch with a symbolic date for the franchise, as it will mark the thirtieth anniversary of the original game, initially released for the first PlayStation in 1997. The Japanese developer ensured that the production schedule continues as planned to meet this launch window.

The development team, made up of veterans who worked on previous titles, highlighted that production has advanced significantly. The main goal is to deliver a conclusion that honors the legacy of the generation-defining RPG while maintaining the quality established in Remake and Rebirth.

ファイナルファンタジー VII – ディスクロージャー

This final stage not only serves as the conclusion of a trilogy that began in 2020, but also as a technical evolution for the series. The producers indicated that the ambition for this title surpasses the scale of its predecessors, seeking to offer the definitive experience of the universe of Cloud Strife and its allies.

Technological change to Unreal Engine 5

One of the main changes confirmed to close the trilogy is the complete migration of the graphics engine. Enquanto the first two games were developed using the Unreal Engine 4, the next title will be driven by the Unreal Engine 5.

Updating the graphics engine will allow:

  • More dynamic and reactive global lighting in real time during exploration and combat;
  • Substantial improvement in the rendering of facial expressions and character details;
  • Loading open-world assets with greater speed and fluidity;
  • Improved physics systems for interaction with the environment.

The developers believe that this transition is essential to realizing the project’s creative vision. The new technology will facilitate the implementation of more complex mechanics and ensure that the monumental scale of the narrative is accompanied by robust technical performance, overcoming limitations previously encountered in the development of the series.

Return of Highwind and exploration mechanics

The game’s producer emphasized that freedom of exploration will be one of the central pillars of this final chapter. Atendendo to one of the community’s most frequent requests, the Highwind aircraft will return not just as a fast mode of transportation or scene element, but as a playable mechanic that will allow users to freely navigate the world. The intention is to recreate the feeling of discovery of the original world map, adapted to modern gameplay standards.

The team is committed to removing the invisible barriers that limited movement in previous titles. The objective is for the player to feel that they have total control over global movement, allowing access to secret areas and providing a complete aerial view of the continents, something that last generation technology made difficult.

Direct connection to Advent Children

Narratively, the game promises to tie up all the loose ends left since the beginning of the remake project. The script has been crafted to ensure the story not only concludes the current journey, but also connects cohesively with the animated film.Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Isso will require adjustments and expansions to the plot so that events flow naturally into the scenario presented in the feature film.

The combat system will also undergo refinements to maintain dynamism. The proposal is to preserve the mix of real-time action with strategic commands, but introducing new skills and synergies that reflect the maturity of the characters in this final stage of the conflict.
