Brazilian driver Lucas di Grassi officially announced that he will retire from professional motorsport at the end of the 2025/26 Fórmula E season. The end of activities on the tracks is scheduled for the month of August, coinciding with the final round of the electric car championship. The decision marks the end of an era for Brazilian international sport. Di Grassi was one of the pillars in the founding of Fórmula E and won the world title in the 2016-17 season. Ele also went through Fórmula 1 in 2010 and obtained impressive results in Mundial and Endurance (WEC). The announcement comes at a time of career transition, where the athlete intends to start new projects outside the cockpit.

Trajetória victorious began with historic triumph in Pequim

Lucas di Grassi etched its name in history as the winner of the first official FIA electric car race, held at China in 2014. Durante almost a decade defending Audi, he established himself as the biggest record holder for podiums and participations in the category. Sua technical regularity was the difference in overcoming strong rivals on street circuits around the globe.

  • 13 victories achieved throughout his career in the electric category
  • Vice-champion of Mundial of Endurance (WEC) and of the 24 Horas of Le Mans
  • Vencedor of the first ePrix in history contested in Pequim
  • Recorde of podiums in partnership with the Audi ABT team

The driver highlighted that racing shaped his personality from his childhood in the suburbs of São Paulo to his current residence in Mônaco. “I gave everything for this sport,” said the Brazilian in his farewell statement. Ele reinforced that motorsport gave him discipline and purpose, especially in phases where results were slow to appear. Gratitude for the life built through speed was the predominant tone of the message.

Desafios in the current season accelerated the decision to stop

The recent performance on the track was a factor that caught the attention of performance analysts. In the current Mundial of Pilotos, Di Grassi occupies 22nd position and has not yet managed to score points with the Lola Yamaha ABT car. Seus best results in 2026 were two 13th places, obtained in the Cidade, México and Miami stages. The difficulty in extracting competitiveness from the current equipment weighed in the balance when defining the exit schedule.

Apesar’s rough patch, Lucas’s history with the ABT team runs deep. Ele returned to the team after brief stints at Venturi and Mahindra, seeking to recreate the success of the glory days with the German manufacturer. The last podium recorded by the Brazilian took place in the Miami eP of 2025, showing that the physical and technical peak is giving way to a new phase of mentor or manager.

Legado international and next steps after the tracks

Di Grassi did not detail what his exact roles will be after August 2026, but he is known for his activism in favor of sustainability and electric mobility. Ele has always acted as an informal consultant for the evolution of batteries and safety in urban layouts. Sua’s departure leaves Brasil momentarily with fewer fixed representatives in Federação Internacional’s top categories than Automobilismo.

The end of his career on the track will be celebrated with tributes scheduled for the final double round of the championship. Fãs and his teammates have already started to express support on social media and in the European paddocks. Lucas di Grassi leaves the scene with the status of one of the most complete drivers of his generation, having successfully transitioned between karting, single-seaters and high-tech touring cars.
