Thiago Monteiro from Ceará was the highlight of the Brazilians in Challenger of Istambul this Tuesday. Ele beat the Spanish Alejo Sanchez live with splits of 6/4 and 6/1, confidently advancing to the second round. The match lasted 1h25 and marked the first victory for the Brazilian delegation in the Turkish competition.

Daniel Silva and Paulo Saraiva did not have the same success on Turkish clay. Ambos took the lead in their respective matches after coming from the qualifying stage, but suffered upsets and were eliminated from the competition.

Monteiro remains undefeated against its European rival

In the next phase, Monteiro will have a high-level challenge. Ele will face the Spanish Pol Martin Tiffon, number 1 seed in the competition, who defeated the young Frenchman Yannick Alexandrescou with a score of 6/2 and 6/3. The direct confrontation between the two favors the Brazilian. Monteiro already beat Tiffon in a previous meeting three years ago in Modena.

Daniel Silva comes out in the comeback against Czech

Danielzinho entered the competition as a lucky loser and almost pulled off an upset. The São Paulo native won the first set against Hynek Barton with a partial of 3/6, demonstrating opposition to the 7th seed. Barton’s recovery was decisive. The Czech changed his performance in the following sets and closed out the victory with partials of 6/2 and 6/2.

Next, Daniel Silva will face the British Anton Matusevich, who also advanced through the qualifying phase. The São Paulo native will need to recover the rhythm found in the first set to seek rehabilitation.

Saraiva falls in tiebreak against Kazakh

Paulo Saraiva also started his match well against Kazakh Denis Yevseyev. The Brasilia native won the first set with a score of 3/6 and remained competitive in the second, losing 6/3. The decision came in the third set. A tight tiebreak ended 7/5 for Yevseyev, eliminating Saraiva from the competition.

Yevseyev advances to face Spanish David Jorda in the next round. Jorda won their spot by beating North American Andres Martin, seed 6, in the first round.

Próximos second round commitments and setup

This Tuesday’s results shaped the match schedule for the next games. Brazilian Três reached the Turkish Challenger, but only Monteiro remains in the fight for the title:

  • Thiago Monteiro faces Pol Martin Tiffon (1st seed)
  • Daniel Silva will have Anton Matusevich as its next rival
  • Paulo Saraiva was eliminated in the first round

Monteiro has a psychological advantage in the confrontation against Tiffon after the victory recorded in 2021. The Spaniard is favorite due to his position in the ranking and recent performance, but the Ceará native demonstrated that he is in competitive shape with the convincing victory against Sanchez.
