The companies Disney and Pixar released the first teaser and also the official poster for “Gatto”, providing an initial sample of what could be the most striking visual transformation in the entire 30-year history of the animation studio.

Gatto Plot Details and Production Team

Under the direction of Enrico Casarosa, the same filmmaker responsible for the acclaimed “Luca”, the new film transports the audience to a Venice completely dominated by felines. The central narrative follows Nero, a black cat who finds himself in debt to Rocco, the influential leader of the local mafia. An unexpected bond of friendship emerges, forcing Nero to reevaluate the direction of his existence and embark on a meaningful journey through the city’s famous canals and alleys in search of a true meaning for his life.

The promotional video itself offers few details about the main story of the feature film. The focus of the teaser lies on an interrogation scene with a comical tone, between Nero and Rocco. To bring these characters to life, the talented actors Mark Ruffalo and Laurence Fishburne were cast, who have just been confirmed in the dubbing cast.

Pixar’s Artistic Ambition and Visual Revolution

When Pixar first announced the “Gatto” project during the Annecy event the previous year, the studio’s official description already pointed to a great “artistic experience.” The final images that are now revealed confirm the depth and boldness of this visual experimentation.

The standard of impeccable realism that has become Pixar’s signature since the release of “Toy Story” was purposely left aside. In place of photographic verisimilitude, a strikingly painterly aesthetic emerges, characterized by clearly visible brushstrokes, deliberately flattened perspectives, richly textured lighting, and visuals that often evoke the feeling of an illustrated storybook come to life. This artistic approach represents a significant commitment, aligning with a movement that several other animation studios have explored and adopted in recent years, demonstrating Pixar’s ability to innovate and reinvent itself.

Disney Release Date and Distribution Strategy

“Gatto” marks the professional reunion between Casarosa and producer Andrea Warren, who had previously collaborated on the Oscar-nominated film “Luca.” The film is scheduled to hit theaters on March 5, 2027. That release date places “Gatto” in the same early March window used by Pixar for “Hoppers” this year. The strategy represents a notable change from the studio’s traditional approach, which used to release its productions in the summer season, and suggests that Disney has demonstrated satisfaction with the results achieved by the praised family film directed by Daniel Chong.

A new poster for “Gatto” was also released, complementing the launch of the teaser and reinforcing the expectation surrounding the studio’s new visual proposal.
