The launch of the Steam Controller on May 4th resulted in a rapid depletion of available stocks on sales platforms. Although Valve already anticipated high demand, the intensity of demand considerably exceeded the company’s initial projections. Consequently, the next purchase opportunities are already being scheduled for the year 2027, extending for a period beyond expectations.

To overcome the lack of products on the market, Valve is organizing a reservation system while intensifying production of the Steam Controller. This method works as a register of interest, positioning the consumer in a queue to ensure the possibility of purchasing the device as soon as their turn arrives and new units become available.

Recently, a new publication on the official Steam blog brought clarifications about the expected periods for acquisitions. Currently, the company presents three main shipping estimates: one scheduled for September 2026, another for December of the same year and the last projected for a still undefined date in 2027.

Although Valve states that it “has no plans to discontinue manufacturing the Steam Controller”, the official statement highlights the importance of aligning consumer expectations. The statement emphasizes that, given the high demand and current production capacity, the company seeks to be transparent about expected delivery times.

The company details that the previously informed purchase periods apply to users who had already made their reservations. Currently, those registered in the queue are being contacted via email by Steam, receiving information about the estimated time they will be able to complete their order.

Although the first significant shipment of the new Steam Controller arrived in the United States, it was quickly absorbed by initial demand. This scenario of instantaneous exhaustion illustrates Valve’s challenge in supplying the market and the extraordinary resilience of demand for a peripheral that, despite not being an ultra-recent launch, continues to generate an unusual volume of orders, contrasting with the typical life cycle of many electronic products.

However, those who make new reservations now will be directed directly to the 2027 acquisition windows. For those interested who have not yet registered, the chance to purchase the Steam Controller before next year appears to be unfeasible. Valve says it will provide more specific details on the exact 2027 availability date in the near future.

Following the production pattern observed throughout the year, experts indicate that an interval of at least three months can be applied in relation to the last period of 2026. This suggests that the opening for new orders for the peripheral could occur around March 2027, if the current pace is maintained.
