Obsidian Entertainment, a subsidiary studio of Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox division, has directed its teams to create a new title in the acclaimed “Fallout” franchise. This move comes amid a significant restructuring of the division, which resulted in the cancellation of several other projects previously under development, according to information from sources familiar with the matter.
The video game company, located in Irvine, United States, also made cuts to its workforce, laying off approximately a quarter of its employees. The sources, who preferred to remain anonymous because they were not authorized to speak publicly, confirmed the dismissals as an integral part of the organizational changes.

Among the projects discontinued by Obsidian as part of this revamp is a sequel to the RPG “Avowed”, which was scheduled for release in 2025. Additionally, other developments that had not yet been officially announced were also cancelled, allowing Obsidian to focus its efforts on the future of the “Fallout” series.
