Anne Hathaway responded to suggestions that her baby bump wasn’t real by humorously saying, “fake hair, real belly.”

The American artist caught attention with a look that revealed her belly at the premiere of her new film, “The End of Oak Street”, which took place in Los Angeles on August 9.

The appearance generated a wave of comments on social media, with some questioning the authenticity of the pregnancy. Phrases like “Why does it feel fake?” and “Oh, come on. That’s not real” circulated online, but others quickly defended the actress, with one noting that “Many people in these comments have never seen a pregnant belly on someone who has abdominal muscles,” highlighting the constant and often unrealistic pressure on female body image in the public space.

Hathaway, 43, announced in June that she was expecting her third child with her husband Adam Shulman.

The look that generated comments about the actress’ pregnancy

Her growing belly was already noticeable in recent weeks during the promotion of “The Odyssey”, but the spotlight increased due to her choice of outfit for the premiere of “The End of Oak Street”.

Her midriff was fully exposed in a custom Atelier Prabal Gurung top, described by the designer as a “sculptural high-low halter top with a cascading train.” Hathaway accessorized the look with low-rise La Ligne jeans and red Aquazzura pumps.

On her Instagram account, the actress published a behind-the-scenes video of her preparation for the event, accompanied by the phrase: “fake hair, real belly.”

She added, in a playful tone: “Enjoy the chaos of the @endofoakstreet Block Party with me as my clothes literally melt in the heat!”

In addition to causing unfounded doubts about the pregnancy, the star’s overall look also received criticism on social media, being labeled “ridiculous”, “tacky” and “bizarre” by some users.

However, there were those who praised the choice. One columnist wrote that, “although it’s a look her critics on social media would never wear, it’s a clear message of body positivity, strength and gender equality – and it’s her unique expression of the next chapter of her life.”

Another analysis pointed out that, “despite attracting criticism from some, the look is just the latest example of a celebrity literally baring everything, reaffirming her autonomy over her own body.”

The actress’ Aug. 9 appearance also heightened interest in her “coconut water” nail look, which became popular after the event.
