A serious collision that occurred on August 16, 2026 on BR-163, in Bandeirantes, Mato Grosso do Sul, resulted in the death of four people and left six others injured. A car, which was traveling along BR-163, suddenly swerved into the opposite lane, hitting a trailer loaded with leather. With the force of the initial impact, this trailer was thrown off the track, colliding with a second trailer carrying fuel and traveling in the opposite direction. The series of impacts resulted in a violent explosion, followed by an intense fire that quickly spread to the vegetation along the highway. A dense column of smoke was visible from miles away.

The accident occurred at kilometer 569 of BR-163, heading north. Due to the severity and the need to care for the victims and control the fire, the highway had to be completely closed in both directions. BR-163 is one of the main logistics corridors in Mato Grosso do Sul, crucial for the flow of crops and the transport of goods, which amplified the disruptions. The disruption resulted in a traffic jam of about 10 kilometers in each direction, affecting hundreds of drivers and transporters for hours.
Mobilization of emergency teams to rescue victims and contain the fire
The concessionaire Motiva Pantanal, responsible for managing the stretch of BR-163, was called at 3:24 pm. Immediately, rescue teams, light and heavy tow trucks, as well as traffic inspection vehicles, were sent to the scene to provide assistance and signal the area. The Fire Department also worked intensively to combat the flames, which consumed part of the vegetation. The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) of São Gabriel do Oeste actively participated in rescuing the injured, while the Federal Highway Police (PRF) managed traffic and assisted with the safety of the incident. The technical examination began at 8:08 pm to investigate the detailed causes of the accident.

Situation of victims and the identification process
Authorities confirmed that four people lost their lives in the accident. To date, the identities of the fatal victims have not been officially released, pending legal proceedings. In addition to the deaths, six people were injured, requiring medical attention. Three of them, in serious condition, were taken to the São Gabriel do Oeste Hospital, while one victim with moderate injuries and two others with minor injuries received treatment at the Bandeirantes Hospital.

The complexity of the incident required BR-163 to remain completely closed in both directions for more than 10 hours. The partial release of the runway only occurred at 11:40 pm.
