Xiaomi finally presented HyperOS 4 on August 17, 2026, the latest version of its operating system based on Android 17. The update stands out for its performance optimizations, wide customization options, the introduction of the Super XiaoAI 2.0 artificial intelligence assistant and an interface that boasts a design clearly influenced by iOS’s Liquid Glass.

Xiaomi’s new platform seeks to offer a more fluid and intuitive user experience, combining technological advances with a modern aesthetic. The expectation is that HyperOS 4 will redefine users’ interaction with their devices, especially on the brand’s most powerful models.

A new look inspired by iOS’s Liquid Glass

Known as Soft Light Glass, HyperOS 4’s new design language features a strong emphasis on sophisticated visual effects. Transparencies, reflections, blurs and refractions are prominent elements, accompanied by smooth animations that enrich interaction.

These characteristics are easily noticeable in fundamental system components, such as interface buttons, notification tray, widgets and toggle switches. The opacity of visual elements dynamically adjusts according to the colors of the content displayed, and interactions are punctuated by quick lighting effects.

An important distinction lies in the fact that Soft Light Glass was developed primarily for high-end cell phones. Unlike iOS Liquid Glass, which aims for consistency across all compatible Apple devices, the full HyperOS 4 visual effects experience may not be fully available on Xiaomi devices with lower computing power. This targeted approach signals a focus on visual performance for the brand’s premium segment.

Customization options and improved notifications

HyperOS 4 introduces several customization options that complement its new design language. One of the highlights is the flexibility on the lock screen, allowing users to adjust the size of the clock and customize font details, giving the device a more individual touch.

Another interesting feature is the ability to group notifications on the lock screen. Instead of a long sequence of warnings, the system organizes messages into a specific section, which only expands when the user wants to view them, providing an organization similar to that found on iOS.

Performance optimization for a smoother system

Xiaomi promises that HyperOS 4 will be significantly lighter on the processor and RAM, in addition to consuming less energy. These improvements are the result of advances applied to HyperCore, the central structure that makes up the operating system, responsible for monitoring workloads and optimizing instructions for specific tasks.

As announced by Xiaomi, the instruction count has been reduced by 14.4% compared to HyperOS 3. In practice, this optimization should reduce the demand for computing power in routine activities, such as opening applications, transitioning between screens and loading components, resulting in a faster and more responsive experience for the user.

Super XiaoAI 2.0: Xiaomi’s smart assistant

One of the most relevant innovations in this update is the arrival of Super XiaoAI 2.0, Xiaomi’s new artificial intelligence assistant. This tool is powered by MiMO-V2.5, a set of proprietary models from the manufacturer, and offers all the functions already present in the previous version, such as chat, web search and information summary.

Additionally, Super XiaoAI 2.0 now supports agentic workflows. Among the new additions, “Expert Mode” stands out, which allows the assistant to perform multiple steps to complete complex requests on more powerful devices. This means that the user will not need to intervene in each phase of the process, as the system is capable of managing the sequence of actions autonomously.

Which Xiaomi devices will receive HyperOS 4?

A vast list of cell phones is expected to receive HyperOS 4, which will go through a testing period before its definitive debut. Below, check out the devices that will be compatible with the Beta version and the expected dates for the update to begin:
