Boca Juniors defeats Tigre 2-0 and takes the lead in Zone A in Clausura
Boca Juniors beat Tigre 2-0 on Sunday night (16), in La Bombonera, in the last round of the group stage of the Torneo Clausura 2025. The goals only came in the second half, with Ayrton Costa scoring a header in the 28th minute and Edinson Cavani converting a penalty in stoppage time. The victory guaranteed the team led by interim Juan Úbeda the first position in Zone A, with a field command advantage in the playoffs.
The result ended the regular season with Boca adding 30 points in 14 games, two ahead of second place. Tigre, in turn, was left outside the classification zone and now depends on combinations of results to advance.
Game truncated until the second half
During the first 45 minutes, Boca dominated possession, reaching 78% at times, but found it difficult to create clear chances. Tigre closed well in the defensive field and threatened with quick counterattacks.
The best opportunity of the first half came from the visitor, when López finished inside the area and goalkeeper Marchesín made a difficult save. Boca responded with long-distance shots, without danger to the goal saved by Zenobio.
Dead ball makes the difference
The score was only opened after 28 minutess of the final stage. Leandro Paredes took a free kick in the area and Ayrton Costa rose higher than the marker to head it into the right corner.
The goal changed the attitude of both teams. Boca started to control the pace better, while Tigre had to attack in search of a draw.
Penalty in stoppage time seals victory
In the final minutes, the referee awarded a penalty after a VAR review for a handball in Tigreās area. Edinson Cavani scored with class in the 48th minute and made it 2-0.
With the result, Boca finished the group stage undefeated as home team and with the best overall campaign in Zone A. The team now awaits the draw for the playoff clashes.

Boca enters the knockout stage with the advantage of deciding all clashes in La Bombonera until the eventual end of the zone. The opponent will be defined after the end of the round.
Tigre finished the regular phase with 21 points and needs to hope for stumbles from direct competitors to reachthe eighth position that guarantees classification.
