Real Madrid defeated Santiago Wanderers 3-1 at Santiago Bernabeu on September 19, 2026, capturing the Under-20 Club World Cup in front of more than 52,000 spectators in the Spanish capital. The turnout broke the previous historical attendance record for the youth category, which belonged to Flamengo since 45,000 supporters attended the 2025 decider at Maracana to watch the Brazilian side defeat Barcelona in a penalty shootout following a draw in regulation time.
Daniel Yañez, Fran Santamaría and Roberto Martín scored the decisive goals that secured this unprecedented intercontinental crown in the category for the Spanish hosts in a historic showdown pairing the reigning UEFA Youth League winners against the current Under-20 Copa Libertadores champions.
Three dismissals reduce Chilean side during heated clash
- Alexander Dubó received a straight red card at 25 minutes into the first half for a foul against Daniel Yañez.
- Cristopher Valenzuela received his marching orders during the closing minutes as friction between the teams increased on the pitch.
- Nicolás Carvacho also exited with a red card moments later amid escalating tension in the final stretch.
Daniel Yañez converted the opening free kick for Real Madrid directly from the set piece awarded after drawing the foul that prompted the initial ejection. Christian Silva equalized the match. Fran Santamaría came off the bench as a second-half substitute to net the second goal and restore the advantage for the home side.
Stoppage time strike seals Spanish victory at Santiago Bernabeu
