Volkswagen unveiled the new T-Roc 2025, the second generation of the compact SUV that has won over two million buyers since 2017. Presented in Wolfsburg, Germany, on August 27, 2025, the model features a refreshed design, hybrid engines as standard, and advanced technologies from the brand’s premium vehicles. Produced in Palmela, Portugal, pre-sales began in late August, with the official launch scheduled for November in Europe. The starting price is 30,845 euros for the 1.5 eTSI engine with 115 hp. The focus is to reinforce the T-Roc’s leadership in the compact SUV segment, offering more space, efficiency, and connectivity for families and urban drivers.

The model retains the T-Roc’s essence with its distinctive coupé-like rear but grows 122 mm in length, totaling 4,373 mm, and gains 28 mm in wheelbase. This results in greater interior comfort and a trunk expanded by 20 liters, now at 465 liters. The new generation adopts the MQB evo platform, shared with the Tiguan and Tayron, bringing advances in safety, handling, and digitalization.

  • Key T-Roc 2025 highlights:
    • Updated design with LED headlights and illuminated grille.
    • Mild-hybrid engines with 116 hp and 150 hp at launch.
    • Premium interior with up to 13-inch touchscreen and head-up display.
    • Assistance systems like Travel Assist and Park Assist Pro.
    • Simplified offer structure with four trim levels.

Revamped design with bold identity

The T-Roc 2025 showcases a sharper, more modern look aligned with Volkswagen’s new design language. The redesigned front features slimmer LED headlights connected by an illuminated strip with a glowing VW logo, echoing models like the Tayron and ID.7. The rear incorporates a full-width LED bar, with the VW emblem lit in red on higher trims, enhancing sophistication.

The silhouette retains iconic elements, such as the silver line running from the A-pillar to the D-pillar, nicknamed the “hockey stick” by designers, and pronounced shoulders over the rear wheels. The elongated proportions, with 12 cm more length, add dynamism and road presence. Six color options are available, including vibrant Canary Yellow and new shades like Flame Red, Celestial Blue, and Grenadilla Black.

  • Exterior design details:
    • Optional IQ.LIGHT LED Matrix headlights with high-performance beams.
    • Redesigned front grille with a cleaner, bolder look.
    • Wheels up to 20 inches, larger than the previous 19-inch options.
    • Black Solid bicolor roof as a customization option.

The design isn’t just aesthetic: aerodynamics were optimized, boosting fuel efficiency, especially in hybrid engines. Volkswagen also emphasizes sustainability, with about 20% of the vehicle’s plastics made from recycled materials, equivalent to up to 40 kg per car.

Premium and tech-forward interior

The T-Roc 2025’s interior raises the bar for its class with high-quality materials and technologies from higher-end models. The dashboard is now covered in soft fabric, creating a lounge-like atmosphere, complemented by ambient lighting across perforated synthetic leather surfaces. Ergonomics were improved with new door handles integrated into the armrests, opening intuitively when pulled upward.

The multimedia system, with a touchscreen up to 33 cm (13 inches), dominates the cockpit, offering advanced connectivity, including ChatGPT integration for natural voice commands. The Digital Cockpit Pro, with a 10-inch rectangular display, allows minimalist or comprehensive configurations based on driver preferences. An optional head-up display projects information like speed and navigation onto the windshield, a first for the segment.

  • Interior innovations:
    • Dashboard with premium fabric and perforated synthetic leather.
    • Up to 13-inch central touchscreen with optimized interface.
    • ErgoActive seats with 14-way electric adjustment and massage function (Style trim).
    • Customizable ambient lighting for enhanced comfort.

Interior space is a highlight, accommodating five occupants. Even with drivers or passengers up to 1.85 m tall in the front, the rear seats comfortably fit people of similar height, ideal for long trips or family use. The trunk has grown to 465 liters, a significant increase that places it among the largest in its class.

Hybrid engines and performance

Volkswagen is betting on electrification for the T-Roc 2025, with all initial engines featuring hybrid technology. At launch, the model offers two 1.5 eTSI mild-hybrid engines with 48V technology, delivering 116 hp and 150 hp, both paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission and front-wheel drive. These engines include cylinder deactivation for better fuel economy, achieving a combined consumption of 5.5 to 6.0 l/100 km.

Later, the T-Roc will gain two full-hybrid options, still under development, and a 2.0 TSI version with 4MOTION all-wheel drive, also offered as a mild-hybrid. The high-performance T-Roc R, with over 300 hp, is confirmed to complete the lineup, appealing to enthusiasts.

  • Engine options:
    • 1.5 eTSI mild-hybrid with 116 hp and 150 hp.
    • Upcoming full-hybrid engines with greater electric range.
    • 2.0 TSI 4MOTION with up to 190 hp, also as a mild-hybrid.
    • T-Roc R with superior performance, expected in 2026.

The MQB evo platform enhances handling with a stiffer chassis and advanced assistance systems. Travel Assist now enables automatic lane changes on highways, while Park Assist Pro supports automated parking over distances up to 50 meters, controllable via smartphone or route memory.

Advanced technology and driver assistance

The T-Roc 2025 incorporates cutting-edge technologies, many borrowed from the Tiguan and Tayron, bringing the compact SUV closer to premium categories. The updated Travel Assist system reacts more precisely to speed limits and lane changes, while Park Assist Pro enables automated parking with route memory. A vehicle exit warning alerts occupants to approaching cars or bicycles, enhancing safety.

Connectivity is bolstered with AI-based systems, like the ChatGPT-integrated voice assistant, enabling natural commands. The multimedia system features fixed shortcuts for menus and climate controls, making operation more intuitive.

  • Advanced assistance systems:
    • Travel Assist with lane change and adaptive speed control.
    • Park Assist Pro for smartphone-controlled automated parking.
    • Exit warning for safer door opening.
    • Head-up display projecting data onto the windshield.

The new offer structure, with four trims (Trend, Life, Style, and R-Line), simplifies customer choices, cutting optional packages by 50%. Each trim targets different profiles, from cost-focused (Trend) to sporty (R-Line).

Sustainability and European market

Volkswagen reinforces its sustainability commitment with the T-Roc 2025, using up to 20% recycled plastics, a milestone for the brand. Production in Palmela, Portugal, keeps the model a “European car for Europe,” with strong regional appeal, having sold 292,000 units in 2024.

The T-Roc competes directly with rivals like the Nissan Qashqai, Toyota C-HR, and Skoda Karoq but stands out for its balance of design, technology, and efficiency. Pre-sales began in August 2025 in select countries, with prices starting at 30,845 euros in Germany. In the UK, the launch is slated for 2026, with estimated prices around 32,000 pounds.
