BYD
The company registered more than 300 pre-orders even before the official announcement. The vehicle uses DM-i technology and offers a combined range of up to 1,200 km in the front-wheel drive version.
The launch reinforces BYD’s strategy to overcome the barriers of 100% electric cars in the Japão, where only 4% to 5% of SUVs sold are BEVs.
Prices and available versions
The Sea Lion 6 is offered in two mechanical configurations. The front-wheel drive (FWD) version starts at ¥3,982,000.
The all-wheel drive (AWD) variant costs ¥4,488,000. Ambos the values position the model below the psychological barrier of 4 million yen in the entry configuration, a value considered critical by the local market.
Featured DM-i hybrid technology
The DM-i system prioritizes electrical operation most of the time. The combustion engine acts mainly as a generator and comes into action in situations of greater demand.
In the FWD version, the package delivers a total range of 1,200 km in the WLTC cycle. The AWD configuration accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, according to data released in Austrália.
BYD highlights that the model eliminates range anxiety, one of the main obstacles to the adoption of electric vehicles in the Japão.
Ocean-inspired exterior design
The front adopts the Ocean X Face style, with a continuous horizontal line and thin headlights. The sides feature creases that simulate wave movement.
At the rear, the taillights have a unique shape and extend across the entire width. The model comes standard with 19-inch black alloy wheels.
Four color options are available: Cosmos Black, Harbor Grey, Stone Grey and Arctic White.
Interior focused on long comfort
The cabin combines black tones with brown details and configurable ambient lighting. The front seats are heated and ventilated as standard.
The center console houses a crystal-shaped electric gear lever and two wireless chargers. Acoustic insulation received special attention with a laminated windshield.
Internal space and trunk
The rear seats accommodate adults in comfort. The trunk offers 425 liters in normal configuration.
With the seats folded down, the capacity reaches 1,440 liters. The electric opening of the rear lid makes it easier to load larger volumes. The model measures 4,775 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm.
Complete multimedia system
The 15.6-inch rotating center dominates the dashboard. The digital cluster is 12.3 inches.
The system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Voice control recognizes orders from all occupants. The Infinity sound set has 10 speakers and delivers premium quality.
Receptivity of the Japanese market
The 300+ pre-orders show immediate interest. BYD positions the Sea Lion 6 as a practical solution to the limitations of charging infrastructure in the country.
The model represents the brand’s fifth launch in the Japão and reinforces the expansion of plug-in hybrids in the medium SUV segment.
