Samsung started distributing One UI 8, an interface based on Android 16, for smartphones Galaxy on Japão. Esta update introduces an unprecedented function that allows the complete formatting of the Osaifu-Keitai (FeliCa) area directly through the device’s reset menu, a significant advance for data management.

The feature, which appears in the “Reset” section of device settings, was not detailed in the official update notes released by Samsung or Japanese operators. Contudo, users who have already received One UI 8 can now perform the procedure autonomously.

Previously, fully initializing FeliCa data was a complex task, restricted to Docomo stores or dependent on professional tools typically employed in buyback services. The new functionality dramatically simplifies this process, making it accessible to all compatible device owners.

Exclusivity and in-depth data cleansing

Completely formatting the Osaifu-Keitai area eliminates all data stored on the FeliCa chip, including residual records that often remain even after canceling cards and services. Essa deep cleaning capability is crucial to user security and privacy.

The previous procedure was limited to visible deletion by the Osaifu-Keitai application, leaving persistent information in the chip’s memory that could potentially be recovered. The change meets a long-standing demand from users who sell or transfer used devices on the secondary market.

Simplified access to the startup function

The new option is located in the path Configurações > Gerenciamento general > Redefinir, making it intuitive and easy to find for users. Este direct access eliminates the need for complicated procedures or seeking outside assistance.

When you select “Reset all data (factory reset)”, the system displays the new specific option to completely wipe the FeliCa area. Essa integration ensures that data cleansing is part of a comprehensive reset process.

The process is performed along with a full device reset and does not require external tools or advanced technical knowledge. Usuários must, however, previously back up all their data, as the procedure will completely erase the contents of the device.

Galaxy models that are already compatible receive the function

The One UI 8 is already being distributed to a range of devices, including models such as the Galaxy S22, which is one of the oldest still supported by Japanese operators au and Docomo. Isso ensures that a large number of users benefit from the new feature.

Devices that already come with Android 16 from the factory will also have the feature natively. The functionality, however, is restricted to Japanese versions of the software, regardless of the operator or sales channel of the device.

Previous limitations generated inconvenience

Before the implementation of this update, owners of Galaxy smartphones from other Japanese operators often had to send the device for a paid repair or resort to specialized services. Essas options generated costs and inconvenience for users.

Some technical assistance centers even refused the total cleaning procedure or charged high prices, making it difficult to correctly prepare the devices for resale. The lack of an integrated solution was a critical point for the used market.

Direct benefit to the used market

The new tool considerably facilitates the sale of Galaxy smartphones at auctions and second-hand platforms on Japão, as sellers can ensure the complete deletion of sensitive data. Complete erasure significantly reduces the risks of misuse of financial data or points recorded on the FeliCa chip.

Competitive manufacturers, to date, do not offer a similar solution directly in the operating system of their devices, giving Samsung an important advantage in this aspect in the Japanese market.

Implementation values Japanese specificity

Samsung has shown particular attention in adapting the One UI 8 exclusively for the Japanese market with this functionality. Essa personalization reflects the importance of FeliCa technology in the country.

The Osaifu-Keitai system remains a widely used standard for contactless payments and public transport cards throughout Japão. The company reinforces its commitment to regional particularities by including the resource without a formal prior announcement.

Enhanced security and privacy for users

The ability to completely erase data from the FeliCa chip raises the bar for security and privacy for Japanese Galaxy smartphone users. When selling or disposing of a device, the certainty that no sensitive information will remain is a determining factor.

This functionality minimizes concerns about fraud or personal data leakage, offering an additional layer of protection. The measure establishes a new standard for managing information on mobile devices in the context of electronic payments.
