Fatal hit-and-run in São Paulo: young man threatened boyfriend before killing him and friend

A tragedy marked the early hours of Sunday (28) in Zona Sul of São Paulo, when Geovanna Proque of Silva, aged 21, allegedly chased, ran over and killed her boyfriend, blatant, and the case shocked the local community due to its brutality and the developments revealed by the police investigation.

The incident, which killed two young people who were on a motorcycle, occurred at Rua Professor Leitão of Cunha, at Parque Regina. Segundo the authorities, Geovanna would have acted motivated by intense jealousy, a fact that took on even more dramatic contours with the discovery of threatening text messages sent by the author before the crime.

Security cameras recorded the moment the university student accelerated her silver Citröen, colliding violently against the back of the blue motorcycle driven by Raphael. The impact was fatal for both, who did not survive their injuries and died at the scene of the collision.

Threats revealed before fatality

Shortly before the fatal act, Geovanna Proque of Silva sent a series of text messages with threatening content to an acquaintance of the couple, Giovanna Sulpino of Costa, aged 23. Nas conversations, she expressed her discontent and jealousy regarding the presence of other girls at the party that took place at the house of Raphael, her boyfriend of about a month.

The university student, who was not at the party, demanded that Giovanna Sulpino expel the girls, warning that, otherwise, she herself would “break him and everything he has there”. The messages, now a crucial part of the police investigation, demonstrate Geovanna’s intention to confront Raphael and the situation.

Persecution and tragic outcome

Giovanna Sulpino, in her statement, tried to calm Geovanna, explaining that everyone present in the house were childhood friends and that there was no “evil” at the meeting. Contudo, Geovanna’s responses indicated an unshakable determination, with phrases such as “Não will have a conversation” and “I spoke to resolve it between you. It didn’t.”

After exchanging messages, Geovanna went to Raphael’s residence accompanied by her stepmother. Diante faced the imminent confusion, Raphael tried to avoid the confrontation, taking his motorcycle and leaving the place.

The college student then got into her car with her stepmother and began the chase. Raphael made a brief stop at a wine cellar, where Joyce Correa of Silva, a friend of the victim and a 19-year-old student, got on the back of the motorcycle. From that moment on, Geovanna intensified the pursuit, culminating in the fatal collision.

The author’s mockery after the deaths

Witnesses reported to the police Geovanna’s disturbing behavior after the collision. According to the statements, the university student had mocked the deaths of Raphael and Joyce, saying shocking phrases.

These statements added a layer of cruelty to the already tragic event, reinforcing the police’s suspicion that the hit-and-run was intentional and motivated by extreme jealousy. The victims were thrown approximately 30 meters from the point of impact, highlighting the violence of the collision.

Other occurrences and material damage

In addition to the fatal collision of Raphael and Joyce, the action of Geovanna Proque and Silva caused other incidents and material damage on public roads. Durante the uncontrolled chase, the driver hit a man who was on the sidewalk.

The victim suffered injuries, falling to the ground and hitting his back and head, requiring stitches. Adicionalmente, two vehicles that were parked on the street – a black Citroen C4 and a white Gol – were also hit by Geovanna’s car, resulting in significant damage.

Indictment and direction of the investigation

After the collision, Geovanna fled the scene, but was found on a nearby street, feeling dizzy. Policiais military personnel removed it from the area to protect it from possible lynchings by members of the public. Ela was taken to a medical unit under escort, with superficial cuts on her arms and neck.

The arrest in the act was converted into preventive by Tribunal of Justiça. Geovanna admitted to having taken antidepressants, but stated that he was aware of what had happened. Ela underwent toxicological tests, the results of which have not yet been released. The university student was indicted for intentional homicide, doubly qualified for futile reasons and ambush, in addition to bodily harm, both while driving a motor vehicle. The incident report emphasizes that “it was not a simple traffic accident”, and the investigations, led by the 37th DP, Campo Limpo, continue to clarify all the details.

Farewell and tributes to the victims

The police considered the “direct intent to kill in the conduct of Geovanna” evident, highlighting that jealousy was a futile motive and that the victims had no chance of defense, characterizing the ambush. Geovanna’s stepmother must be interviewed to provide more details about the events.

This Monday (29), the bodies of Raphael Canuto of Silva and Joyce Correa of Silva were veiled. Raphael received the last honors in Itapecerica of Serra, and Joyce, in Embu of Artes, both municipalities of Grande São Paulo.

Friends and family of the victims attended the wake, visibly shaken. Parentes of Raphael wore white t-shirts printed with the young man’s photo, in an act of tribute and mourning. Giovanna Sulpino, the friend who exchanged messages with Geovanna before the tragedy, expressed her pain: “I can’t believe it. Oh, I’m here, crying, looking at him there”, demonstrating the profound impact of the loss.
