The Renault is preparing a profound renewal for the national Kwid in the 2027 line, with production in São José of the Pinhais, in the Paraná. The main novelty will be the adoption of a shark fin roof antenna, an item that eliminates the traditional long model criticized by owners.
The compact combustion hatch will follow the design of the electric Kwid E-Tech imported from China, but with specific differences for the Brazilian version. Essa change makes the national model the first in the global family to receive the modern antenna.
The current Renault Kwid has a flexible rod antenna positioned on the front of the roof, which facilitated the creation of a trend on TikTok known as “Kwid on the street, antenna on the moon”. Nela, users lifted the piece from parked or moving vehicles, generating viral videos.
Renault chose to adapt a component from the Kiger SUV, sold at Índia on the same CMF-A platform, to implement the shark antenna on the Brazilian Kwid. Nem even the Dacia Spring, the European version of the tram, has this feature until now.
Visual update aligned with the electric
The national Kwid 2027 will receive extensive changes to the body, including a new hood, fenders, doors and trunk lid. The front will gain LED headlights and an integrated grille, approaching the style of the renewed Kwid E-Tech.
Inside, the dashboard will be completely redesigned, with a 7-inch digital instrument panel and a multimedia center measuring up to 10 inches. Esses items already equip the electric version and improve the perception of modernity in the entry-level hatch.
- Headlights with LED signature;
- Redesigned bumpers;
- 14-inch wheels with new design;
- Updated Renault logo.
Production should begin in the first half of 2026, with commercial launch in the second quarter of the same year.

End of a recurring controversy
The long antenna of the current Kwid has become the target of criticism since the launch of the model in the Brasil, in 2017. Sua’s unbalanced proportion in relation to the car’s compact size generated negative comments and, more recently, a viral trend on social media.
Owners reported discomfort with people changing the position of the antenna on stationary vehicles. The adoption of the shark model resolves this issue definitively, aligning the Kwid with more current automotive design standards.
This change symbolizes Renault’s attempt to reposition the hatch as a more attractive option in the entry-level segment. The model continues to be one of the most affordable on the Brazilian market.
Motorization maintained without changes
The mechanical set of the Kwid 2027 will remain the same as the current line. The 1.0 SCe flex three-cylinder engine delivers up to 71 hp with ethanol and a torque of 10 kgfm.
The five-speed manual transmission also remains unchanged. Essa configuration prioritizes fuel economy and low maintenance costs, characteristics valued by the vehicle’s target audience.
The focus of the renovation is on design and interior finishing, without investing in technical updates to the engine. Renault maintains simplicity as a strategy to preserve competitive prices.
Differences from Kwid E-Tech
Although the external appearance is inspired by the imported electric vehicle, the national combustion engine Kwid will have specific adaptations. The shark antenna is one of them, absent even on the Chinese model and the European Dacia Spring.
Other distinctions include component positioning and finishes adapted to local production. The electric car has a 26.8 kWh battery and a range of around 180 km, items that do not exist in the flex version.
- Exclusive shark antenna in the Brazilian version;
- 1.0 flex engine instead of electric;
- National production versus imports from China;
- Most affordable price in the entry segment.
These differences allow Renault to offer varied options within the same model family.
Positioning in the entry market
The Kwid remains one of the cheapest cars in the Brasil, competing directly with models like the Fiat Mobi. The renewal aims to attract consumers looking for an economical vehicle for urban use.
With the changes, Renault hopes to reduce criticism of the excessive simplicity of the original project. The hatch accumulates significant sales in direct channels, such as fleet owners and rental companies.
The French brand reinforces its presence in the segment with this update. The launch occurs at a time of transition towards gradual electrification of the line.
Equipment expected in the 2027 line
The list of items must incorporate features already present in the Kwid E-Tech, such as a multifunctional steering wheel and modern air conditioning controls. Segurança is reinforced with a possible six airbags in higher versions.
The model prioritizes essential items, such as electric steering and Isofix locks. The multimedia center with wireless connectivity improves the onboard experience.
- 7-inch digital whiteboard;
- 10-inch multimedia with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay;
- Updated climate controls;
- Possible top-of-the-line driving assistants.
This equipment raises the level of Kwid without compromising the entry positioning.
Production and industrial strategy
The São José factory of Pinhais is preparing for the new line with investments in stamping and assembly. The CMF-A platform continues to be in use, ensuring controlled costs.
The Renault integrates global partnerships for components, such as the Kiger’s adapted antenna. The schedule foresees a smooth transition from the current line to 2027.
This renewal extends the model’s useful life by Brasil. The Kwid remains a key piece in the brand’s strategy for the popular segment.
