Mitsubishi Motors has officially confirmed the launch of an updated version of its iconic minivan, the Delica D:5, for the Japanese market. The announcement, made on December 18, 2025, establishes that the new model will reach dealerships in the country from January 9, 2026, bringing with it important technological and design improvements.
The highlight of the update is the implementation of a reinforced version of the S-AWC integral control system (Super All Wheel Control), which promises to further increase the vehicle’s capacity on different types of terrain. Esta improvement reinforces the model’s unique positioning in the market, which combines the versatility of a minivan with the robustness and safety of a four-wheel drive SUV.
In addition to the mechanical improvements, the vehicle has received a subtle but significant facelift that modernizes its appearance and enhances the onboard experience. With this renewal, Mitsubishi seeks to maintain the loyalty of its customer base and attract new consumers looking for a family car that does not give up its capacity for off-road adventures.
Improved performance with the S-AWC system
The main technological innovation of the Delica D:5 2026 lies in the evolution of its acclaimed S-AWC system. Esta technology, which is an engineering pillar of the Mitsubishi, has been refined to offer even more precise and intuitive control for the driver. The system intelligently integrates the Controle Ativo of Guinada (AYC), which manages the distribution of torque between the wheels, the ABS braking system and the Controle Ativo of Estabilidade (ASC). Essa synergy ensures that the vehicle maintains the ideal trajectory when cornering and maximum grip on low-traction surfaces such as mud, snow or gravel. Para to facilitate adaptation to different conditions, the driver can choose between four different driving modes: ECO, for maximum fuel efficiency; NORMAL, for daily use on asphalt; GRAVEL, for dirt roads; and SNOW, for snow-covered slopes. Motorization and energy efficiency
Under the hood, the new Delica D:5 retains the reliable 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine, known for its robust torque and efficiency. Embora the power unit is the same, engineers at Mitsubishi have worked to improve sound insulation and reduce vibrations, resulting in a significantly quieter and more comfortable cabin for all occupants.
The engine continues to be coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which has been recalibrated to offer even smoother gear changes and faster response. The combination of the efficient diesel engine and the well-matched transmission ensures an ideal balance between vigorous performance and contained fuel consumption, a crucial factor for a family vehicle and long journeys.
Updates to exterior and interior design
On the outside, the Delica D:5 received touches that modernize its appearance without losing its robust identity. The front end has been redesigned with a more imposing bumper, which aligns with the latest evolution of the brand’s “Dynamic Shield” design language, giving the vehicle a stronger presence on the road.
At the rear, the headlights were updated with a new LED signature, making the vehicle more visible and modern. Completando as mudanças externas, foram introduzidos novos desenhos para as rodas de liga leve, que reforçam o caráter aventureiro e a sofisticação do modelo.
The interior has also been carefully modernized. The instrument panel now features a new 8-inch color LCD screen, which displays vital vehicle information, including the operating status of the S-AWC system, in a clear and customizable way.
Driver comfort has been improved with a new steering wheel, which now offers heating as standard on some versions. Além In addition, connectivity has been expanded with the addition of easily accessible USB ports for passengers, meeting the needs of a modern family.
Technology and safety on board
The Delica D:5’s safety package has been expanded, incorporating the latest driver assistance technologies from the Mitsubishi. The Mitigação of Colisão Frontal (FCM) system has been enhanced to detect pedestrians and cyclists with greater accuracy, even in low light conditions, automatically applying the brakes to avoid or reduce the impact of a collision. Visibility during maneuvers has been dramatically improved with the Monitor of Visão 360°, which uses four cameras to create a panoramic view around the vehicle, displayed on the central screen. Esse feature is especially useful for parking a vehicle of its size in tight spaces or for navigating narrow trails.
The multimedia center, in turn, offers a faster and more intuitive interface, with full compatibility with smartphones, allowing the use of navigation, music and communication applications directly on the car’s screen. The audio system has also been improved to provide a more immersive sound experience, transforming the cabin into a pleasant environment for long journeys. The combination of these technological features not only increases safety, but also raises the level of on-board convenience and entertainment, reinforcing the appeal of the Delica D:5 as a complete family vehicle prepared for any situation.
Versions and price range on the Japão
Mitsubishi announced that the new Delica D:5 will be sold at Japão with prices ranging between ¥4,510,000 and ¥4,944,500, depending on the version and equipment chosen.
To meet different consumer profiles, the model will be offered in different configurations. Entre of them, the most notable are the “P” version, more luxurious, the “CHAMONIX”, with an appeal aimed at outdoor activities, and the “BLACK Edition”, which offers a more sporty and urban look with darkened finishes.
This version diversification strategy allows the Delica D:5 to reach a wide audience, from families looking for maximum comfort and technology to adventure enthusiasts who need a robust vehicle with a distinctive style.
Legacy and popularity of Delica
Originally launched in 2007, the Delica D:5 quickly established itself as a reference in the Japanese market for its unique proposal. O modelo passou por uma grande atualização em 2019, que introduziu o design “Dynamic Shield” e o motor diesel, consolidando ainda mais seu sucesso.
By spring 2024, the model had already sold more than 22,000 units in the Japão, an impressive number for its niche. Sua popularity derives from its ability to offer the space and practicality of a minivan for up to eight passengers with the traction and prowess of an SUV, a combination that few competitors can match.
Focus on the driver experience
With the improvements implemented, the Delica D:5 2026 takes the driving experience to a new level. The combination of the refined engine, smooth transmission and superior control offered by the S-AWC system results in a vehicle that conveys safety and comfort, whether in everyday urban traffic or on a weekend expedition on dirt roads.
