The evolution of S-AWC traction control

The technological heart of the new Delica D:5 is, without a doubt, the improved version of the Super All Wheel Control system (S-AWC), one of the most acclaimed technologies of the Mitsubishi. Este integrated dynamic control system has been meticulously refined to provide an even more precise and safe response in any terrain or weather conditions. Ele operates by intelligently managing traction and braking force on each of the four wheels, integrating the Controle Ativo of Guinada (AYC), which optimizes torque distribution to keep the vehicle on the ideal trajectory during curves, with the ABS braking system and the Controle Ativo of Essa complex synergy guarantees maximum grip and stability, whether on wet asphalt, gravel roads or snowy trails. Para the driver, the experience is one of total control and confidence, with the system acting proactively to correct deviations before they even become noticeable. The new calibration allows for smoother transitions between selectable driving modes — ECO, NORMAL, GRAVEL and SNOW —, adapting the vehicle’s behavior instantly. Diesel engine and focus on acoustic comfort

To power the minivan, the Mitsubishi maintained the robust and efficient 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, a power unit already known for its excellent torque at low speeds and balanced fuel consumption. Embora the mechanical basis remains the same, the brand’s engineering has dedicated special attention to improving comfort on board, focusing on reducing noise and vibrations (NVH). Foram improvements to the sound insulation of the engine compartment and cabin were implemented, resulting in a significantly quieter and more pleasant interior environment, an essential factor for a vehicle designed for long family trips.

The eight-speed automatic transmission, which works in conjunction with the diesel engine, also received a new calibration. The management software has been tuned to provide faster, smoother gear changes, improving both acceleration and energy efficiency. Essa optimization ensures that the Delica D:5 delivers vigorous performance when required, but maintains smoothness and comfort during everyday city use, offering a more refined and pleasurable driving experience for all occupants.

Ela offers full compatibility with smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing navigation and music apps to be mirrored directly on the vehicle’s screen.

Security package and embedded technology

The Mitsubishi reinforced the active safety package of the Delica D:5, incorporating the latest driver assistance technologies. The Mitigação de Colisão Frontal (FCM) system has been enhanced with more advanced software and higher precision sensors, capable of detecting pedestrians and cyclists more effectively, even in low light conditions, and automatically applying the brakes to avoid or mitigate the impact.

Visibility during maneuvers, a critical point for a large vehicle, has been drastically improved with the inclusion of Monitor and Visão 360°. Utilizando a set of four cameras, the system generates a panoramic image around the car, as if seen from above, eliminating blind spots and making parking in tight spaces or navigating narrow trails easier.

Release and pricing strategy for Japão

For the Japanese market, the new Delica D:5 will be offered in a diverse range of versions, with prices ranging between ¥4,510,000 and ¥4,944,500. Essa value range positions the model as a premium option within its segment, reflecting the high level of technology and capacity it offers.

Among the available configurations, the “P” version stands out, focused on luxury and maximum comfort; “CHAMONIX”, with finishes and accessories aimed at outdoor activities and winter sports; and “BLACK Edition”, which focuses on a more urban and sporty look, with darkened external and internal details. Essa strategy allows Mitsubishi to serve different consumer profiles with a single model.

A legacy of versatility and robustness

Originally released in 2007, Delica D:5 has built a solid reputation on Japão for its unique proposition that unites seemingly disparate worlds. Sua’s ability to function as comfortable family transport during the week and transform into an exploration vehicle on weekends has ensured lasting popularity, with more than 22,000 units sold by mid-2024, an impressive number for its specific niche. Esta new update reinforces all the qualities that made the model a success, preparing it to continue its legacy for many years to come.
