This initiative is in line with the ambitious environmental goals of Tóquio, which plans to bring carbon dioxide emissions to zero. The local government has set a goal that 100% of new motorcycles sold in the city will be electric by the year 2035, and the adoption of the WN7 by the police symbolizes an important step in that direction.

A milestone for sustainable mobility in Tóquio

The introduction of the Honda WN7 into the Tóquio police fleet represents more than a simple vehicle upgrade; It is a strategic step within the “Zero Emission Tokyo” plan. Este comprehensive program aims to transform the city’s energy matrix, with a particular focus on the electrification of transport. The goal of converting all new motorcycle sales to electric models by 2035 is one of the pillars of this strategy, and the adoption of a Japanese-made model by the police sends a powerful message to the market and the population. Unlike imported electric scooters, which are already seen in some operations, the WN7 is a high-performance straddle-type motorcycle, developed and produced in the Japão, which highlights the national industry’s commitment to the energy transition and positions the Honda as a leader in this innovation movement for government fleets.

WN7 performance and technical specifications

The Honda WN7 is equipped with a high-performance water-cooled electric motor, capable of generating a maximum power of 50 kW. Esse performance is equivalent to that of combustion motorcycles in the 600 cc category, guaranteeing the agility and response necessary for police activities.

The electric motor’s instantaneous torque reaches 100Nm, comparable to 1000cc models, providing vigorous acceleration. Apesar of high peak power, the rated power of 18 kW classifies the vehicle as a light motorcycle under Japanese legislation, simplifying licensing requirements.

Autonomy is guaranteed by a fixed lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 9.3 kWh. Segundo tests in the WMTC cycle, the WN7 can travel up to 140 kilometers on a single charge, more than enough distance to cover the designated stretches in the Hakone Ekiden marathon, of 21.3 km and 23 km.

For greater versatility, the motorcycle’s recharging system is compatible with both the CCS2 fast charging standard, which allows the battery to be recharged in a short space of time, and the Tipo 2 connector, used in domestic and public alternating current chargers.

Official presentation details

The launch ceremony took place in the Governo Metropolitano building of Tóquio and was attended by governor Yuriko Koike, who highlighted the importance of the vehicle for everyday police tasks and for the future of urban mobility. Ela highlighted that the WN7 represents a significant advance in relation to electric scooter models already used in delivery services.

Actor Takeshi Tsuruno, known for being a motorcycle enthusiast, also participated in the event. Após testing the vehicle, he praised the futuristic design and silent operation, comparing its sleek appearance and lack of exhaust to science fiction elements, which reinforces the innovative character of the model.

Innovative structure and functional design

The engineering design of the Honda WN7 is centered on an innovative approach in which the aluminum battery case itself functions as a main structural element of the chassis. Essa solution directly connects the front steering column to the rear suspension, eliminating traditional components and, consequently, reducing the vehicle’s total weight. Além Furthermore, this architecture allows for ideal mass centralization, resulting in more agile and stable piloting, fundamental characteristics for the maneuvers required in urban policing. The smooth surfaces and seamless design are not only aesthetic, but also designed to optimize ergonomics and rider comfort during long periods of use.

Visually, the WN7 establishes a new identity for the Honda electric line, marked by an imposing silhouette and a horizontal light signature at the front. Diferente of the brand’s scooter models that use interchangeable batteries, the WN7 opts for a fixed and compact power unit. Essa design decision was made to prioritize dynamic performance and overall balance, factors that are more critical in a straddle motorcycle than the convenience of changing batteries. The result is a vehicle that combines police functionality with an aesthetic that points to the future of mobility on two wheels.

Debut in the traditional marathon Hakone Ekiden

The Hakone Ekiden is one of the most prestigious and followed sporting competitions of the Japão. Realizada annually in January, the university relay race attracts millions of spectators and has a long tradition of being led by police motorcycles.

In this highly visible scenario, the Honda WN7 will be responsible for guiding the athletes through the first two and busiest sections of the race. The operation will be conducted by Departamento of Polícia Metropolitana, which will use the four units provided by Honda.

This participation serves as a technological showcase and public demonstration of electric motorcycle reliability and performance in a real and demanding application. The appearance at the event will offer the public a rare opportunity to see the model in action before its commercial launch in other markets.

Adaptations for police use

To meet the specific needs of security forces, the Honda WN7 received a set of specialized equipment. Adaptations include the installation of high-power sirens, flashing emergency lights and an integrated communication system, all harmonized with the vehicle’s original design.

One of the most interesting modifications is the inclusion of a pedal on the left foot that simulates a gear shift. Embora the electric motor does not require replacement, this feature was implemented after test sessions with police officers, who reported an improvement in the riding position and greater control of the vehicle, maintaining ergonomics familiar to combustion models.

Global production and availability

The manufacturing of the Honda WN7 is concentrated at the Kumamoto plant, the main motorcycle production center for Honda in Japão. The company confirmed that deliveries to international markets are scheduled to begin in 2026, with some countries receiving reduced power versions to suit local licensing regulations, such as category A1 in the Europa.

Honda’s electrification strategy

The development and introduction of the WN7 is a key part of Honda’s long-term strategy to achieve carbon neutrality across all its products and corporate operations by the 2040s. Although there are no immediate plans for large-scale adoption by the Japanese national police or massive commercial sales in the domestic market, the WN7’s use by the Japanese police and its participation in prestigious events serves as a powerful symbol of this transition. The initiative serves as a real-world test, validating the technology and building public acceptance for the electric future of mobility.
