Rockstar Games expanded the Grand Theft Auto Online universe with the launch of the adversarial mode “Mansion Raid”, available on January 15th. The new modality places players in high-intensity invasion scenarios, where teams face off in luxurious mansions spread across Los Santos, alternating between attack and defense roles in a fight for gold.
The premise of the mode is straightforward: a team of attackers must infiltrate a fortified property to steal gold from an underground vault, while the defending team has the mission to protect the location and prevent extraction at all costs. The design of the missions favors close-range combat and the strategic use of explosives to overcome defenses.
To mark the premiere, participants will receive double GTA$ and RP rewards throughout the launch week. The update also introduces a series of bonuses and discounts on other game activities and properties, encouraging player engagement on various fronts of virtual criminal life.
New game mode mechanics
Mansion Raid was designed to test teams’ coordination and tactical ability. Players are divided into two balanced groups, with clear and opposing objectives. The attack team starts the game outside the property and needs to overcome the gates and security systems to gain access to the interior of the mansion.
The attackers’ main objective is to plant explosive charges at strategic points to open the way to the basement, where the safe is located. Cada successful detonation not only opens a new route, but also adds a precious 30 seconds to the mission timer, which is deliberately short to maintain constant pressure.
Meanwhile, defenders must position themselves strategically to neutralize threats. Sua’s role is to eliminate the attackers before they complete their objectives and, crucially, to defuse planted explosive charges to prevent the attackers from gaining extra time. Victory depends on efficiency in protecting the mansion’s vulnerable points.
Once the gold is captured by one of the attackers, the final phase of the match begins. The player carrying the bag with the loot becomes the main target, and their team needs to escort them to a safe extraction point, while the defenders try to intercept them at any cost to recover the loot and win the round.
Raid preparation and execution
The approach to the invasion in Mansion Raid can vary drastically depending on the team’s strategy. It is possible to opt for a noisy entry, with intense firefights and massive use of explosives from the beginning, or adopt a more stealthy tactic, using the environment’s cover to advance discreetly and surprise the defenders. The initial phase, which involves planting explosives to open the first access points, sets the tone for the rest of the match. Once inside the mansion, combat turns into a close-quarters battle, where every hallway and room can hide an ambush. The complexity of the property layout requires attackers to constantly check corners and work together to cover all angles.
The descent into the vault represents the climax of the invasion, taking place in even more confined spaces that intensify the action. Nesse point, short-barreled weapons, shotguns, and remaining explosives become essential tools for clearing the way. Para the defenders, prior knowledge of the map is a decisive advantage. Eles can use internal routes and secret passages to quickly reposition themselves, outflank attackers, and cut off their escape routes. Constant communication is essential for the defense team, allowing them to coordinate the protection of the safe and, subsequently, the interception of the gold carrier during the extraction phase.
