The Ford Performance raises the level of its sports cars with the official presentation of the Mustang Dark Horse SC, an even more powerful version focused on track performance. The new model arrives to fill the gap between the standard Dark Horse, with its 500 horsepower, and the exclusive and radical Mustang GTD, with more than 800 horsepower, promising a visceral driving experience with significant improvements in engine, suspension and aerodynamics.

Equipped with a powerful supercharged V8 engine and dual-clutch transmission, the Dark Horse SC was developed to deliver impressive lap times without sacrificing road usability. The automaker confirms that orders for the model will open in the North American spring, with the first units scheduled to be delivered to customers during the summer.

The development of the vehicle involved the application of technologies and knowledge acquired from the Ford competition program and the development of the GTD. With this, the Dark Horse SC is not just an increase in power, but a complete engineering package, designed to rival supercars from traditional European brands, offering a level of performance previously unheard of for this range of the Mustang line.

Predator V8 engine details

The heart of the Mustang Dark Horse SC is a variation of the acclaimed 5.2-liter V8 engine, known internally as the Predator, which previously powered the powerful Shelby GT500. Este aluminum engine features a roots-type supercharger to force air into the cylinders, generating a substantial increase in power and torque across all speed ranges. Embora to Para manage all this force, the model uses a seven-speed Tremec dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT), calibrated to perform gear changes in milliseconds, guaranteeing continuous acceleration and immediate response both when starting off and when exiting curves on a circuit.

Improved dynamics and suspension

To ensure that the engine’s power is transferred to the asphalt with maximum efficiency and control, the Dark Horse SC received a complete treatment of its suspension system. The model comes standard with state-of-the-art MagneRide shock absorbers, which use a magnetic fluid to adjust stiffness in real time, instantly adapting to track conditions and riding style. The control software has been recalibrated specifically for the vehicle’s new performance demands.

In addition to active technology, the hardware has also been reinforced. The set includes firmer springs, larger diameter stabilizer bars and new structural components at the front to increase torsional rigidity. A highlight is the tie bar between the front suspension towers, made from magnesium to reduce weight at the front of the car, improving agility and steering precision in high-speed maneuvers.

Functional aerodynamics and aggressive design

The design of the Mustang Dark Horse SC was sculpted by the wind, with each new body part playing a functional role in improving aerodynamics and cooling. The front end has been completely redesigned, featuring a central grille opening 65% larger than that of the standard Dark Horse, allowing massive airflow to the radiators. The side air intakes have also doubled in size to optimize brake cooling.

The aluminum hood has a prominent hot air extractor that, in addition to helping to keep the engine temperature under control, generates 2.5 times more downforce (aerodynamic pressure) than the conventional part. At the rear, a new diffuser works to manage airflow under the car, increasing stability.

The set is complemented by 20-inch aluminum wheels, shod with high-performance Pirelli P Zero tires. The braking system is designed by Brembo, with six-piston calipers at the front and four at the rear, ensuring consistent stopping power and resistance to overheating.

The exclusive Track Pack package

For enthusiasts looking for maximum performance on circuits, the Ford will offer the optional Track Pack, which transforms the Dark Horse SC into a racing machine. Este package replaces the aluminum wheels with a set of 20-inch carbon fiber ones, which are significantly lighter, reducing unsprung mass and improving suspension response.

The tires are also improved, changing the Pirelli P Zero R to the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R, compounds developed for maximum grip on dry asphalt. The brakes are replaced by a carbon-ceramic system inherited directly from the Mustang GTD, with 16.5-inch discs at the front, offering extreme resistance to the so-called “fade” (loss of efficiency due to heat).

Aerodynamics are taken to a new level with the addition of a fixed carbon fiber rear wing and a trunk lid with an integrated ducktail spoiler. Juntos, these components generate an impressive 281 kg of downforce at 290 km/h, keeping the rear of the car firmly planted on the ground.

The package also unlocks a variable traction control system with five levels of intervention, allowing the driver to precisely adjust the car’s behavior according to their ability and track conditions, and can even completely deactivate the stability control (ESC).

Driver-focused interior

The interior of the Dark Horse SC is designed to keep the driver connected and in control. The straight-based steering wheel, inspired by the GTD, has a thicker grip and is covered in leather, with easy-to-access controls. Detalhes in carbon fiber and Alcantara are present on the dashboard and door finishes, reinforcing the sporty atmosphere.

As an option, customers can choose the Recaro seats, which offer superior lateral support, essential for track riding. Eles are covered in a combination of leather and Dinamica. Pacotes customization options, like the Teal Accent, add pops of color to the brake calipers and internal stitching, allowing for a greater level of individualization.

Special launch edition

To mark the arrival of the model, Ford announced a limited series called Track Pack Special Edition. The Esta exclusive version will combine the Track package and the Carbon Exterior package, which adds carbon fiber finishes to the front fascia and rear view mirrors, creating an even more aggressive and sophisticated look.

Available only in the colors Shadow Black or Oxford White, the special edition will feature a black painted roof, red brake calipers and Recaro seats with contrasting stitching in Solar Red. The final touch is the internal details in 3D printed titanium, a technology also inherited from the GTD project, providing a level of exclusivity and finish worthy of a collector.

Market availability

The Mustang Dark Horse SC reinforces the Ford tradition of creating high-performance “pony cars”, capable of challenging competitors in higher segments. Segundo Ryan Shaughnessy, brand manager, the model was developed with a clear objective: to compete directly with the best European supercars. Official prices and final power figures will be revealed closer to launch, but market expectations are already high for the new predator in the Mustang family.
