Missing real estate agent, last seen in elevator, had ongoing legal disputes with building superintendent

Real estate agent Daiane Alves Souza, 43, has been missing since December 17, 2024, after being last seen in a condominium elevator in Caldas Novas, Goiás. Her disappearance follows a prolonged period of intense legal and personal conflict with the building’s superintendent, Cleber Rosa de Oliveira, spanning numerous accusations from both sides. This complex background of disputes adds a layer of intrigue to the unsolved case that has baffled authorities for over a month.

Family members and friends have been without contact with Daiane since she vanished from the building’s sub-basement. Surveillance footage captured her entering an elevator with a neighbor, descending to the second sub-basement, and then, after a two-minute gap in the recording, returning to the elevator alone before proceeding to the first sub-basement, where she was last definitively seen. The police, initially investigating other hypotheses, have since shifted the inquiry to a homicide investigation.

Allegations of superintendent’s harassment detailed

According to a complaint obtained by CNN Brasil, Cleber Rosa de Oliveira is accused of systematically persecuting Daiane between February and October of 2025. These alleged actions reportedly began in November 2024, stemming from a disagreement regarding Daiane’s property management practices within the condominium. Prosecutors allege Daiane had rented one apartment to two families, totaling nine people, exceeding the unit’s maximum occupancy limit, which ignited the conflict.

The prosecutor, Christiano Menezes da Silva Caires, highlighted that “the accused began to repeatedly persecute the victim, obstructing any and all requests from Daiane to the condominium, such as demanding that maintenance requests be made in person, through a notarized application.” This created significant hurdles for Daiane in her professional activities.

Beyond these administrative demands, the superintendent also allegedly engaged in several other disruptive behaviors. These included sabotaging utilities, specifically by closing water registers, disconnecting power, and cutting internet cables to apartments managed by Daiane. He also reportedly monitored Daiane’s and her guests’ movements via the condominium’s security cameras, even sending images to Daiane’s sister.

Frequent arguments between Daiane and Cleber, both in person and via messaging apps, were also reported. In one severe instance, in February 2025, Cleber allegedly physically assaulted Daiane with an elbow, an incident that led to a separate legal process for bodily injury. The prosecutor concluded that Cleber’s actions “threatened Daiane’s physical (which was, at one point, offended) and psychological integrity, as she felt constantly monitored, disturbed in her professional and personal affairs, affecting the victim’s freedom and privacy.”

Extensive legal battles preceding disappearance

Daiane Alves Souza has filed 12 lawsuits against Cleber Rosa de Oliveira, encompassing both civil and criminal complaints. Eleven of these cases are currently active in the legal system, while one was archived with a judgment favorable to Daiane, underscoring the deep-seated nature of their disputes.

The Goiás Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the existence of Daiane’s complaints against Cleber, clarifying that these concern events that occurred prior to her disappearance. Authorities have stated that, as of now, there is no proven link between these legal proceedings and Daiane’s current missing person case. Cleber’s defense reinforced that he is not currently under investigation in the inquiry into Daiane’s disappearance and has been cooperating fully with authorities, providing requested access and information to the Civil Police.

Superintendent’s counter-accusation against agent

In a counter-move, Cleber’s defense revealed that the Public Prosecutor’s Office itself filed a complaint against Daiane for the crime of trespassing, with Cleber as the alleged victim. According to his lawyers, this demonstrates that the conflicts between the two parties were consistently handled “within strict legality” and through institutional judicial channels.

The complaint states that on February 6, 2025, Daiane arrived “agitated” at the building’s administrative office, where Cleber was present along with Daiane’s stepfather. She allegedly began to hit the door, attempting to enter the room where the superintendent conducted his activities, aiming to invade the space. However, a witness reportedly intervened, containing Daiane and removing her from the premises.

Daiane’s defense “vehemently refutes the accusation of trespassing,” asserting that her innocence “will be fully demonstrated during the legal proceedings.” Her lawyers clarified that her actions were a direct reaction to a perceived risk. She allegedly witnessed Cleber confining her 79-year-old stepfather in the reception area after an earlier aggression by the superintendent. Fearing for her stepfather’s safety, Daiane entered the area exclusively to ensure his physical integrity, invoking the principle of legitimate defense of a third party.

Tracing Daiane’s last known movements

Daiane’s disappearance on December 17, 2024, remains shrouded in mystery, particularly due to the circumstances captured by condominium surveillance footage. She reportedly left her apartment after a power outage to investigate the issue, riding an elevator with a neighbor. Upon reaching the second sub-basement, both exited the elevator and were seen conversing.

However, a critical two-minute segment of the surveillance footage is missing. When the recording resumes, Daiane is observed re-entering the elevator alone. She then ascends to the first sub-basement, where she glances at the security camera before exiting. After this point, there is no further visual record of her whereabouts, leading to widespread concern and an intensive police investigation into her fate.
