The financial details of the trade

The 2.4 million dollar operation was considered strategic by the management of Vasco, which achieved a significant reduction in relation to the amount requested by Independiente of Valle in previous transfer windows. In mid-2025, the Ecuadorian club demanded around 3 million euros for the athlete’s pass, an amount that made any agreement unfeasible at the time. The flexibility in conversations and the player’s desire to play in Brazilian football were decisive for the positive outcome. Payment will be structured in installments, relieving the club’s immediate cash flow and allowing other investments to be made in parallel. The purchase guarantees Vasco all of the economic rights of Spinelli, whose previous contract with Del Valle was valid until the end of 2027, which further values the asset acquired by the Rio team.

Claudio Suas’s consistent performances and remarkable finishing ability quickly caught the attention of the European market, resulting in his transfer to Genoa, from Itália, in 2018.

During his time at Itália, Spinelli played for clubs like Crotone and Alessandria, gaining tactical and competitive experience in different divisions of local football. During this period, the center forward scored a total of 28 goals and also contributed two assists, totaling 30 direct goal appearances for his team. Essa performance established him as one of the most efficient strikers active in South American football.

His goals were well distributed between the competitions played. In the national championship, he scored 18 times in 32 games, while in continental tournaments, such as Libertadores, he scored 10 goals in 18 matches, showing his decision-making ability in high-pressure games.

The average of 0.56 goals per game and the more than 4 thousand minutes on the field during the season attest to his excellent physical condition and his importance for the team. Foi this performance convinced the Vasco board to invest in hiring him.

How the transfer was completed

Conversations between the board of directors of Vasco and representatives of Independiente of Valle gained strength in the final stretch of January. The Brazilian club acted with precision in the market, presenting a proposal that pleased the Ecuadorians and sealed the agreement within a few days.

The decisive stance of the Vasco management was crucial to overcome the interest of other clubs and guarantee the signing. The sports project presented to Spinelli, with a long-term contract and the possibility of being a protagonist in a giant of Brazilian football, also influenced the athlete’s choice.

With the verbal agreement sealed, the legal teams of both clubs are now working on exchanging documents and resolving the final formalities. The expectation is that the player will travel to Rio of Janeiro in the next few days to undergo medical examinations and sign the definitive contract.

Expectations at São Januário

The arrival of Claudio Spinelli generates great expectations among fans and the Vasco coaching staff. Ele is seen as the solution for the center forward position, adding finishing power, presence in the area and international experience to the squad.

The team’s coach is already studying the best ways to integrate him into the game system, taking advantage of his versatility to act both as a fixed pivot and in a role with greater mobility in the attack, alongside other speed players.

Integration into the Cruz-Maltino squad

Vasco’s planning foresees a rapid integration of Spinelli into the rest of the group. After passing the medical exams and making his official presentation to the press, he will begin training at CT Moacyr Barbosa to regain his game rhythm and be available to the coaching staff as soon as possible. Adaptation to Brazilian football and the new club will be closely monitored by the entire structure of the football department, aiming to provide the athlete with the best conditions so that he can perform as expected. The three-year contract is an indication of the board’s confidence in his potential and offers the necessary stability for him to develop his best football in São Januário.

The Cruz-Maltino market for the season

The hiring of Claudio Spinelli is the main move by Vasco so far, but it should not be the only one. The board remains attentive to the market in search of more reinforcements to qualify the squad for the Campeonato Brasileiro, Copa, Brasil and other competitions.

Positions such as left-back and midfield are treated as priorities, and new negotiations are underway. The club’s strategy is to make one-off signings, investing in athletes who arrive to take over as starters and raise the team’s competitive level for the season.
